Hitting it fat and hitting it thin

Guys, what do these phrases that I keep seeing mean?  I know they're bad but not in what way they are.

FAT = Hitting the ground before the ball and taking a divot.

THIN = Hitting the Ball with the leading edge of the Club rather than the Face.
