Practise, Practise, Practise!!

Posted by: user40826 | Fri 27th Feb 2009 22:07 | Last Reply

Love it.  After last weeks disaster of a round, I decided I would rather spend my mid week golfing money on practise.  Went to the range to work on my driving using trusty Today's Golfer's tips.

But the main time has been spent on the short game.  My putting since the damn snow has been shocking.  Dont really know what happened during that break but I couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo since then.

Anyway,

After a half an hour on the range playing a fake round - makes such a difference when you play a game on the range - Good fun.

I marched over to the putting green determined to fix my putting problem.  I have been working on a new grip and stance for a few weeks. It started out with the same crap I had been producing over the last few weeks.

Then I thought of something my father in law said last night watching Tiger.  "He has a narrow stance when putting."  I narrowed my stance and BANG I couldn't miss. Putt after putt, after putt was rolling in.  Even my lag putts where within a dustbin lid of the cup!

I completely lost track of time and 2 hours later my Mrs rang me to find out where I was!! Really looking forward to tomorrows round and hopefully a great putting performance!!

Yeah baout a shoulders width.  My previous stance was much wider than that.  I was told a wide stable base was best - maybe in a strong wind.

I think your right you have to find what is comfortable for you.  Putting is a very personal thing - or am I talking rubbish??

Must try the narrower stance to see if this helps with my putting...

Now if only I could get a sitter so I can get out....

Well done Chris, I've been working on my putting grip over the last couple of weeks. I grip with both index fingers on the shaft, the three other fingers n my right handoverlapping my left index finger. Previously the V in my right hand pointed way past my right shoulder. I have moved my right index finger so it is in line with my nose and it has helped me keep my putts on line. It certainly saved my card last Thurs with seven one putts.

Seven one putts? No wonder that HC is going in the right direction Pat.
