REGRIPPING
I am taking my Ping Zing irons to be regripped today .Some are badly worn and cracked. Will my game improve for it?. I have been told it will be like playing with a new set of clubs!

If your grips are as bad as you say then I would say it will help your game.
I did read once that if you only play once a week then you should get your clubs re-gripped once a year, if you play more often then you would get them re-gripped twice a year.

Get measured for the grip size as well Mark. Mine are standard grips with an extra wrap of tape and it made a huge difference to the feel of the clubs. Suffered a bit from cramp when I got them back because of the tiny increae in diameter, but now my grip is much more relaxed.

Campbell, I was with the club repairer when he was doing mine (he'd already given me different clubs with different thickness grips to see which one I preferred) and the tape is spaced out without any overlapping so I was sceptical that this was going to make any difference at all but it certainly did. I was so impressed as soon as I picked the club up.It felt I had more control and power in my hands which cannot be a bad thing. I contemplated getting two wraps but that's me, over the top as usual. I would say to anyone give it a go.

I prefer thin grips, so usually it is one wrap spaced out.

John, how many wraps is considered thick?

Well, Patrick, I would not know, what is considered a thick grip. I would have thought that two wraps of the tape would be pretty thick.
I have never yet found anyone who can re-grip my clubs thin enough, they always feel too thick to me. David L is going to re-do mine when he gets the time and has promised they will be perfect.

John, you're lucky to have someone. The bloke I used for grips, shafts, refurbishing woods etc had a wealth of knowledge. He had an outlet called 'Hole in one' in Leeds but had to move out of the premises last X'mas due to lack of business... internet, falling prices etc.. Grips were something I din't consider important 'til I got them done and is one of overlooked aspects of gear maintenance.

If there is anything you need done to your clubs, be it re-gripping new shafts etc. then I am quite sure, our own David Ley would be delighted to do it for you. He is a very good clubmaker.

There's a good guide to get sizes here http://www.golfgrips-direct.com/acatalog/Grip_Sizing.html . I bought mine from here (just the boring Lambkin crosslines) and the pro at the local driving range put them on for me for £2.50 each. Would suggest getting all the clubs done at the same time though.

I doubt you can even fit them properly.
