Do all three at once. Join the club, get the pro to give you lessons and do you a good deal on a nice set of shiny.

Jonny P, I did actually think of saying that, but then realised that though they made excellent clubs in 1980,(I fondly remmeber my Lynx prowler blades), all clubs were blades and he would find it pretty difficult to start again with clubs that require perfect striking. He would soon get depressed and pack it in for another 28 years.

Very nice of you to agree, Wayne. Are you old enough to even think about growing a moustache.

Mel, I started up again after a gap of 15 years and continued to use the same clubs I'd had from 1975 (titleist with little weights in the heel and toe) and I was a bit miffed that I'd not picked up from where I left off. I could still hit a decent ball but my short game was rubbish. I think a good point is to be realistic about your expectations, be patient and it'll all come back to you....that is except the long drives.

 Happy golfing.

Number one for me would be join a club.

Find one local to you that you like and has a good practice area.

Then you will find that you can have lessons at a reduced rate being as you are a member.

Once you have lessons then you will start to swing the club how it should be swung!

Once you've got that mastered, then get your new clubs and have them custom fitted for your swing.

If you bought a set of clubs now using your present swing, and then had the lessons and it changed your swing, you might find that your new clubs aren't suited to your new swing.

Good luck with this.

I too am looking at joining a club and lessons this year.

Makes sense to join 1st and then lessons afterwards.

John, I hope you are going to put me on the right track when we eventually get to meet/play together.

All advice is gratefully received.

Have no fear, Russ, a game with you is already pencilled in in my diary.

I have noticed a steady lowering of your handicap, so you must be doing something right.

Thanks for noticing John, yes my handicap is getting lower.

The good thing is that when my handicap goes down I manage to stay at that level.
