Not really affected by playing from a winter tee.
The only time it would affect me is if I could not get my tee to stand up on it!

Alex I presume from your last post you are referring specifically to playing off mats. I don't mind playing off mats as long as they are well positioned and properly anchored. I don't particularly like playing some holes off mats and others off grass.
However mats aren't a problem at the course where I am a member as they have smaller grass winter tees which are quite good fun for those of us that play the course regularly as they alter the angle of attack on some of the holes and provide a bit of variety.

Sherfield Oaks had some out today.
Can't say they were any worse or better to play off if Im honest...

Wow, Dennis, that is the first time I have known Sherfield put winter tees down on a few holes.

Is it John? I know Blue Mountain had one or two out a couple of weeks back too.
I'm finding Sherfield is really concentrating on the maintenance of the course at the moment - a couple of times last week there were no trolleys allowed (once due to heavy rain and then due to frost).
I believe the winter tees were on holes 5 and 7 on the Waterloo course (par 3's).

NO bad thing this, protecting the course, must be the new manager taking an interest. I am going to the club tomorrow to see the roll -up boys come in and also hopefully speak to Matt or Nick.
If you are there introduce yourself. You know what I look like.

Mats are a necessary evil (as are winter greens) but I can't do with:
a) poorly positioned mats which bear no resemblance to the line of the original tee.
b) Mats, and temp greens for that matter, which reduce the lengh of the whole. Last week I played a 75yd par 3 from a mat to a temp green and giving a shot (the hole is normally 160 to an elevated bunkered green)
c) Mats that point in a differnt direction to the fairway/green, very disconcerting....why would they do that?

No problem at RAF Waddington. The course gets such little usage that our tee areas are fine throughout the winter.
