NEC Golf Show a let down
I took a trip up tp the NEC in Birmingham last week for the golf show. Disapointed or what. Not at the actual show, I think the organisers did a good job considering, or the companies that did turn up, they also did their best, some of which were small companies and simply being there must have made a dent in their bank balances. My disapointment lies with the big names that did not attend for whatever reason. I would have thought that even if these shows are not as effective as the fancy adverts in magazines, that they would have been there simply to support us golfers who would have loved to see all of the tour vans etc. Lets face it, without the big boys, attendance will be down. If attendance is down we will probably loose the show. The next thing I would like to see is some of our top players coming along, perhaps free of charge, to give back something to their public, who actually pay their rather nice salaries. I dont begrudge the large companies their profits and I certainly dont begrudge the players their millionair lifestyle but give something back guys because without us golfers you would all be the asme as us - unpaid enthusiasts.

Jonny, tough one this. Arguably without people playing golf, watching golf and spectating then the big businesses wouldn't be there so general golfers do have a minor indirect link.
Plus golf is still seen as a elite type sport with golfers thought to have greater disposal income then others thus the higher prices for gear and the big sponsors in terms of banks, investment companies and overseas property.
Not all bad though, helping to grow golf in general.

I think most of the players money comes from the events that are sponsered by the big names.
So does that mean if you drive a Volvo (masters) or have a credit card (RBS) you can expect to see these guys at the NEC??
It would be nice but it aint gonna happen, anyway who'd wanna give up their free time to visit scabby brum when they can be getting ready for the Race to Dubai?

The London golf show last year was also very poor.
The vast majority of the stalls were to try and sell you a substandard villa and the equipment!!!!!!!!! dont get me started.
You could try out the New drivers from Nike, callaway etc, but couldn't buy one?? what??
the other stalls had no stock either. dont show me how great your electic trolley is then tell me that i have to order one! And american golf who had the biggest stock were more expensive than thir shops!
between 4 of us we had a grand to spend. all we spent was £9 for 2 hrs parking and £3.00 for a pint.
boo hiss, don't bother going!

oh yeah,
stop bloody arguing you lot.
it would be nice to see a pro or 2 at these events. just for the sake of getting to see your heros, but if they choose not to that is up to them.
