so what is the problem with the Plus10?? Currently using my Ram Concept 450cc and hit it pretty well but was looking for that little extra. The Plus10 was on my list.
Also I have tried the K1 and returned it after 3 rounds due to a crack from the heel across the top then down the middle to the back of the head shocking

Bought myself a second-hand Ben Hogan 'Big Ben' C-S3 off e-bay after a recommendation from a local golf shop (Owned by Calloway apparently). Can now hit nearly 300yds with it, or 200yds if I want it to go in the general direction of the fairway. Lovely club compared to my package set Ram Concept 2 (that was too flexible), but needs some getting used to. Got to be the loudest club in existence though!

I tried the Calloway and a Nike at a golf shop (can't remember the name of the chain, I'll get back to you on that) and frankly could feel no difference between that and the Ben Hogan that I bought. The real clincher was the price, I didn't want to spend more on one club than the rest of the others put together, I'm just not that good yet.
The good thing about going there was that they actually measured my swing speed and strike angles, found out that my Ram driver was far too flexible. So my C-S3 has a stiff shaft with a draw bias. Still slice it like a good 'un, but when I catch it right....

Thank god for e-bay! Well worth a trawl, there are some bargains to be had. The guy I bought my driver off had just bought a full set of Calloway fusion graphite clubs, the Wilsons and Ben Hogan set he'd got 'didn't work', he'd only used them four or five times at the most.
Still, I'm sure his present 19 handicap will plummet now he's got a grands worth of clubs....

Digging up this thread - I am a beginner, shooting on or around 100. I cannot use a driver to save my life, and usually use a 5W for teeing off.
I have read somewhere that the best type of driver for a beginners is: 13 degree of loft No Roll Radius Less than 44 inches in length.
I am struggining to find a club to fit these specs, most clubs are at least 45inches long, and many manufacturers don't seem to make their drivers with more than 11.5 degrrees of loft.
I have however spotted 2 possible clubs online: Voit Big Easy Benross V12+ (14 degree)
I intend to try a couple of shops as well, but does anyone have any clue as to whether wither of the above are any good?

Just thought I would share my thoughts on drivers.I only started playing last May and bought cheap set of Dunlops, couldnt hit the driver to save my life! Then when I started to hit it I would always slice it, completely ruined my game. Then whilst working away in Belfast I was lent a Cobra 10.5 deg driver, couldn't believe the difference, it completely transformed my game. The chap I lent it off said he paid nearly 200 for it, but because it was last years model and the big companies seem to upgrade there kit nearly every year,When I got home I bought one online for 79 brand new!So my tip is dont buy the latest new gadget, buy good quality old stock, that way you dont get divorce proceedings either hehehe

Seems lots of beginners buy those cheap Dunlop Drivers from sportsworld, which IMO is a huge mistake. I paid only 15 for a John Letters Driver (Brand New, but discontinued model), and within two minutes at the range was well out-performing my old dunlop in terms of distance and accuracy.
My mate who has just taken up the game proudly showed me his new Dunlop Driver at the weekend (Christmas present).... Oh well....

I think the best advice you can possibly be given, when buying ANY club, is to get out there and actually try the damn things!
Any of the big brands produce decent technical clubs, but some will be suited to your game, some won't . And DON'T trust hitting it into a net at american golf or similar...get to a range or practice ground so you can see how the ball flies!
If you can, I'd also recommend getting fitted to it. I recently bought a new boom stick (TM R7 460 - love it!) having broken my previous Ping G2 (fair do's to ping, they replaced FOC though!) and the difference between a 10.5 reg and the 9.5 stiff I was told I needed was huge....

I've never manged that. I give the club a fair old swing, measured at 170 mph ball speed at urban golf. I dont know how that relates to club head speed.
Reply : Wed 14th Mar 2007 17:06
The pro I used to have lessons with, said my swing was faster than his. I asked if i should slow it down, as thats what all my mates used to tell me, but he said it was fine. Next time I go to urban golf, I'll have to see what I can get my max speed upto.

Ive never really had my swing speed measured, but DAAAAAAAAAM Chris 116mph !! Can you give me some of whatever your taking !! lol, seriosuly tho can anyone tell me what the average golfers speed should be/or is ?? Im sure I'm not very fast - as at the moment I am actually trying to swing slower to try and stay in control of my club more.....figured that staying on the fairway and sacrificing distance would probably help more at this time - I use a Callaway Big Bertha 454. i think I probably hit the ball about 240ish (rough guess - Im sure I clear 200 anyway).

Matt,
If you end up joining Crook why not put that kind off cash to lesson's with the club pro..?
Then, try before you buy as Wayne says. The NS 460 may suit you but it is a lot of money to find out it does not.
Personally I use a Howson GBH Assassin 10.5 * driver and it works well "for me" and the cost was a mere £10.00.

Ive been onthe market for a new driver but just carnt find the courage to stump up the £100+ price tag for a chance it might not work/improve.
As ive said before im using my original Ram Concept 10.5 degree which I hit rather well with a slight fade but boy do I lose it when it goes.
I bought a K1 regular shaft and it was great never lost them right but it was faulty and was returned and I just didnt want to pay for the same to happen again inthe future and the noise was like a cannon.
So after my rant does anyone know or recommended a driver of similar spec to the K1 or Talyormade R5 but of a competitive price cos when im playing the driver issue is on my mind all the way round

Dont get me wrong I do but its the cost. Everytime I ready myself for a dive into the £150-£200 market I have a great round with the driver and I think sod it I'll wait a few more months but my driving is now at its limit.
Was looking at Talyormade R5 or R7, Benross V10/V12
Its one of thoses things you need to get right the first time out dont you think?

im hopefully gonna buy the callaway fusion ft 3 tonight off ebay.
Always fancied a Callaway but im not into paying £200 for that square thing. FT3 gets great reviews so i'm gonna treat myself and i'll let ya know the results sometime next week.
Looked at the Cobra F speed, M speed etc etc and was close to getting one. Only time will tell if i made the correct decision.

Well happy with the Callaway Fusion ft3. After all the rain this way ive finally managed to hit a ball. 1ST tee this morning. 1 person looking on. Boom, straight down the middle. It did nt come out of the centre but its as far as ive ever hit the ball on that hole and taking into account the puddles on the fairway im guessing i didnt get much run out of the ball. I would recommend this club to anyone. Ive also been watching Mr Leadbetters new DVD and picked up a few pointers so its not all in the club. Today im a happy man.
