Distance

Posted by: user41891 | Tue 19th Sep 2006 09:13 | Last Reply

At the moment i'n stuggling with me distance with my iron. I am basically guessing my club selection beause I dont know how far I can hit each club. Last night I was eactly 150 from the green and I hit a 6 iron over the green and 20 or so yards into the trees. I put another ball down and hit a 7 iron, again into the trees. How can i work out my distances with each club?

I think you should only do this on a course and not at a range that uses mats. The other thing you don't mention is what type of ball flight did you have and what the weather was on the day. Were both strikes clean and not thinnned? Also, as you dropped a ball straight after the other one went long, did you think about the shot or just hit a relaxed shot as this usually means a better swing. If it's a really hot day, I hit my 9 iron from 150yds and land either in the middle of the green or just short and this changes to an 8 iron when the weather is normal and sometimes I hit the 7 iron when it's a damp day. It all depends on swing speed and weather conditions
