Spammers/promo abuse etc

Posted by: user8 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Mon 10th Nov 2008 20:04 | Last Reply

Just to confirm given quite a few recent posts and replies.

We do actively remove blatant abuse of the forums and delete accounts where appropriate.

Not only are the spammers promoting their service but also using the site to increase their search engine listing by links, discussions on the company/product and company names.  Therefore should you see any spam type posts just reply to inform others but do not feel any need to discuss their site which only gives them more promotion.

Shortly I'll introduce forum moderators so we can all block them out

Thanks for your time.

Regards, Darren.

Nice one Darren...

Just a thought but at the bottom of the thread it says "edit" etc, well could we not have another button which says "report thread". The member could then just click on this to draw your attention to it...

You could then send Luke into Cyber Space with all guns and erasers blazing...

You lot get more annoyed than me, time to stamp them out though.

Personally I think they're quite amusing, but appreciate that they may be a problem to less cynical members on here.  Must be like being an alternative comedian playing to a bunch of stone faced pensioners.

It's a pity we couldn't organise some sort of revenge attack, an ambition of mine ever since I started with this interweb malarky.  Something along the lines of new members having to register with a legitmate e-mail address (ie no hotmail types) from a recognised ISP, and at the first sign of spamming or promo we could all send a 'welcoming' reply directly to them.  Several thousand 'just piss off and die' e-mails clogging up their inbox would be sooo sweet.

I can dream....

I would tar and feather the little wasters....

They intrude rudely on our web space uninvited and without even an inkling of politeness in the hope of conning some poor sod...

Their adverts are usually sub standard as are the products. Furthermore the person/salesrep masking behind in wait are about as professional as a dose of SARS.

They have no pride, no dignity, no self esteem. They are sub standard persons preying on cyber space in the hope of a easy kill before scuppering off to their slimey little lives like rats scurrying into the gutter.

Other than that, I don't see what the fuss is about......

I agree with what everyone has said above.  What annoys me is that these people are obviously targetting beginners (or the stupid) who think they are getting top notch gear for a bargain price without realising they are walking into a fake club minefield.  I have sympathy for the beginner.  I think we should deal with them as follows: -

  • Report spamming posts to Darren/Luke/Helen/other admin
  • Admin delete all posts from spammer
  • Admin delete account and block accounts using same e-mail address/ISP
  • Admin post spammers e-mail address on forum
  • All users to send an e-mail to spammer within 24 hours advertising viagra/spot cream/genital enhancement products/fake clubs/villa for rent/sex chat lines/porn site/pheromones so they can see how bloody annoying it is
  • Co-ordinated attack on their site by everyone going on there at the same time and asking if their clubs are fake/what exchange rate they are using to rent out their villa
  • One thing to bear in mind is that we don't want to accidently block new posters by mistaking them for spammers (like what happened with Viper).  Let's be certain before destroying their sanity.

EDIT - We also need to allow regular users to advertise their old clubs/bags/wife for sale or their villa for rent as these people are not spammers (and we have a classfieds forum specifically for it)
