How to
Hi Darren.
I've got the task of running a works society day.
How do I run a team event. Each four ball is a team. It's 2 best scores from each hiole, stableford, with 3/4 handicaps.
Cheers

Hi Danny, the scoring you are suggesting is a well knowm format called a 'Bowmaker'
The most common bowmaker format in the U.K. calls for 4-person teams with the two low scores per hole counting as the team scores. If on the first hole, members of your group score 4, 5, 6 and 7, your team score is 9 (4 plus 5, the two low balls).
All competitors play off 3/4 handicap

Thanks for reply's.
I know how to do the scoring. We are doing teams of 4, with the 2 best scores (stableford) on each hole, going to final score. Off 3/4 handicaps.
What I wanted to know is, can i run it using golfshake? ON the day, put in the scores, and the site work it out?

Danny at present no.
How far away is the event ? might get round to it on the site or maybe a spreasheet may be quicker.
Regards, Darren.

How could I do that on a spreadsheet?
It's 6th November.

Don't count on me but will see what I can do. If anyone else with Excel skills ie Chris Perry is reading this then they may pitch in.

It's something I could do, but I can't promise anything due to workload. I definitly can't this week as I'm in the US again. I can try to have a look when I'm back in the UK next week.
How many players Danny?

I'll take a look on excel for you.. I'm a little experienced with complex spreadsheets but will keep you posted.

I have sent you a PM, Danny, but I have made a spreadsheet that will do what you want.

Sorry, Lee, I had been working on it before I posted, but if you can do a better one, then be my guest.
Just realised it is the two best scores on each hole not the two best scores out of each team, Back to the drawing board.

I probably can't!! It would only take up the rest of my evening and frustrate me! I have some experience in the different formula types, but not enough to get it done tonight! Any chance you could send me a copy please so I can take a look?

Lee, the one I have done is for 16 teams with players A,B,C and D. I have put in their individual stableford scores for the eighteen holes giving a team total and also the Teams best two out of the four, but on reading Dannys' request again, it appears that I read it wrong. He wants the two best scores on each hole which says to me that he is going to do all the work. Not the way to go IMO, golfers should be able to complete a score card properly.
PM me an email address and I will send you what I have done. Let me know what Excel you have, as I have done this one in Excel 2007, but any Excel before then will be a different format and I can save it to that if needed.
I have another programme similar to what Golfshake does which I could let him have but I am not sure whether he could do the necessary with it to cover all he needs.

Danny, have you had anything for this ?

John P,
This should be quite simple if you put a RANK formula on each score. I have a vast amount of experience in Excel but haven't got the time to do this yet.
John.

Posting the same content hree times is way to much emphasis, John. It is obvious that you are way more experienced in Excel than me, it is a programme that I never use, just thought I would try and help out Danny with what he wants, but I then realised that it was way too difficult for me.
Your undoubted wealth of experience is what he needs, just a pity you cannot find the time at the moment.
Personally I cannot see why he would want or even nedd somwthing on this scale, after all I assume the players in the event should know how to mark a card and once the cards are in it is very easy to work out who the winners and losers are.

Well done Phil, great to see you about again.

Thanks for or your help guys.

Danny,
Can you send me the course details please, I.e. a scorecard so I can have the par & stroke index.
Once I have this I can send you a document that should do the job. It's taken me a while to figure everything out but it would be pretty easy to use.
John - I will send to you if you are interested in seeing what I have done?

Lee, yes send it to me, it will be handy to keep anyway, also I will learn something.

Will do. As I only have excel 2003, will this be a problem when opening it on your latest version?

Fantastic job, Lee, well done indeed. We have a genius amongst us.

Thanks John.
If anyone would be interesting in seeing what I have put together & to possibly use it for their own society, drop me a PM with an email address and I'll send onto you.
Regards
Lee
