Converted Non Believer

Posted by: user122690 | Tue 7th Oct 2008 04:30 | Last Reply

Up until about 4 months ago I disimissed the game of golf outright. :O

Due to the nature of my job about 90% of the lads play golf in their time off. No matter how much they tried they couldn't get me to take up the game.

I don't exactly know what changed my mind but the chance of a second hand set of clubs came my way so I thought lets see what the fuss is about.

4 months later I am hooked I can't wait to get out for a round even when it's raining. Thinking of the reasons this is why I enjoy the game.

  • Good social aspect aswell as the advantages of heading out for some me time.
  • Get to wear good clothes
  • The satisfaction smashing a drive down a fairway. Relieves some tension.
  • Relaxing. (mobile switched off).
  • Great scenery.
  • Crisp mornings.

Was anybody else in the same situation as me and what does everybody else enjoy about the game?

I just cannot imagine my life without ever having played this wonderful game. I have no sympathy for those who dismiss it out of hand without ever giving it a try.

Don't worry about the demise, Wayne, my good friend, long departed now, was a brilliant organiser and I am quite sure he will have it sussed for us when we get there.

Graham.

I bet not many started the way i did....it was the wife's brother-in-law's stag weekend & they were playing golf, i had no interest but she forced me to go & like many others I was instantly hooked.

8 years later we still row about golf every weekend but she's only her self to blame

John.

David, like me you now have the best of both worlds. I too am a keen fisherman as well. Nice and relaxing, just like the golf.

Graham,

totally agree with your post but you didn't mention the fabulous mental side to the game.  Learning to clear your mind and focus in shot preperation, learning to put bad holes behind you and controlling the adrenelin on the rare occaisions when everything is clicking.  Endless fascination.
