Hang on - who said anything about having to hit a driver to play 18 holes?

If you can hit whatever club you like best just 150yds that means you could play a 400 yd par 4 in 2 shots down the fairway, the third shot up to (hopefully on) the green and 2 putts for a one over par. Even if you took a couple of extra shots on the long holes you'd still do ok for 18 holes.

Also I spent two years trying to get rid of a huge slice with my driver - what I did was start by only backswinging the club head to shoulder height and keeping my wrist straight - it didn't go very far BUT it did teach me the feeling of the club when it hits the ball straight and as I built up the speed of the club I could start to hit it further. Even using this technique (albeit with a 440cc driver) I could still carry 200yds and with the right conditions maybe roll another 50yds

Since then I've added more power and started to hinge my wrist at the top of the backswing but because I've learnt what the club should feel like I am having more successful connections with the ball.

Or at least that's what worked for me - hope it helps for you!
