Injections Helpful

Posted by: user103550 | Fri 27th Jun 2008 10:44 | Last Reply

Corticosteriod injections are one of the most common treatment methodologies, but their role in the treatment of tendinopathy remains controversial. Since tendinopathy is not an inflammatory condition, injection of an anti-inflammatory agent theoretically should not work. However, in clinical settings athletes have found cortisone injections helpful, and some feel that they are the “miracle cure.”

I believe that their main use is to allow a golfer to get back on the course during the summer months or to go on a long-planned golfing vacation when otherwise the golfer would miss the entire season or trip. I do, however, stress to patients that a cortisone injection definitely is not a cure and that if they continue at their same level of activity when the cortisone wears off (normally in 3 months), they will be worse off than when they started.
