Taylor Made TP Forged Irons

Posted by: user89993 | Mon 16th Jun 2008 13:43 | Last Reply

Hi, Does anyone have these and what are they like. I have been using the TM R7XD mid tip Reg Flex. I am new to golf so please forgive me if I sound confusing.

I have been playing a little over a year, This year my game has really gone well simply as I tee off with my driver on a par 4/5 I am able to go get a good drive, and my second shot I can use a 3/7 wood and really connect the ball well to get the ball on the green or yards from the green.

Then it's a case of chip with a chip putter and then putt. My I will some times putt 3/2 putt and recently improved and having a consistency of 2 putt and the odd 3-4 putt.

Now, when I mess my second shot on some holes I will then use my irons. I will tend to either top the ball or ground the club.

Few who have played with me say that your shaft on the clubs is wrong.

This is because by hands pass the ball before the club is able to to the ball. Does this mean anything to anyone.....

I am not sure what level of forgivness my clubs have. I bought them when I got into golf from american golf, and the sales chap said these will be good clubs.

I like the Taylor Made TP Forged Irons what are you thoughts.

Hi Jagdeep,

Its an intresting question that you have raised as few people starting out will not think of the shaft material and flex when buying clubs. As a general rule of thumb, the faster your swing the stiffer the shaft should be. You say that you bought the clubs from American Golf, Did you get "fitted" for them or was it a case of the salesman just sugesting them? As it sounds as you might have a fast swing and therefore a stiffer shaft would have been a better option.

With regard to the TP forged, they are very nice clubs but with all respect they are most prob not siuted to your game at the moment as they are aimed at the lower handicap player (the TP standing for tour perfered and therefor the clubs have altered lofts ofsets) as these are similer to "blade/muscle backs" irons.

Over all the r7XD's are a very good club and if you are not sure if the shaft is correct for you before splashing out on new clubs go for a fitting and see what is sugested.

Hope this helps

Danny
