MD Golf for value for money and vastly underated. Srixon balls and now a bit of a convert to Footjoy, gloves, shoes and waterproofs.

The best brand is definitiely....
.....down to the individual. For example, everyone raves about Mizuno irons, I can't get on with them at all and would never buy them. The reason there are so many different brands is there are an infinite number of different golfers with completely different needs, desires and opinions. I would venture that most of us don't even have the same selection of clubs in our bags, let alone the same brand.

How true that is JP. Being a cynical old sod I tend to go the reverse, if someone tells me that such and such is best I generally shy away fom them. I stick to the old adage that we had when my brother raced bikes, unless someone pays they aren't going to get free advertisements, hence my strange bunch of clubs - MD, Ben Hogan (pre Callaway) and XKR400 irons. It's also a well propogated myth that the pro's actually use the brands that they advertise.
Golf equipment has to be one of the most cynically marketed product lines in existence.

Football is worse Tim. Some player (I can't remeber who) who was paid a fortune to wear and endorse Adidas as one of their main faces was caught out by accident. He went down injured and was photographed laid prostrate. The soles of his boots showed he was wearing Nikes but he'd had Adidas stripes sown onto them to try to fool his sponsor. His deal was soon "renegoitated".
It would never happen in the golf world that someone would endorse a brand but use someone elses equipment with their own sponsers marque stamped on it.....................

Wasn't it Rodney Marsh who wore one Addidas and one Gola boot for an International because they used to get one off £100 payments for boot deals?

Up untill recently i have been a wilson man, Irons, balls, apparell the whole shooting match. This started after i bought the Fastshaft III irons and found them to be very good (for my game at my level) so so i got sucked into the marketing machine and became "WILSON BOY".
However i have just changed my irons to Taylormade, but i have realised that it doesnt realy matter who the manufacturer is its more the comfort level that you feel with them. As all the bigger brands are offering the same technology all be it with a diffrent name.
Classic example is one of my playing partners plays with the strangest asortment of irons and woods that you will see and with balls that he's "happened" accross in the rough etc and he's currently playing off of 8. He states that he wont be suckered into changing clubs etc because of an AD man....fairpoint as far as i can see.
