Just looked at the shshshaaaakkky photos and i have two questions...

Did anyone visit the Donnington Grove Beach in picture one?

How did the tree fungus get on in the windy conditions :-)

 

Looked like it was a tough day from the scores...looking forward to the North vs South...

 

Can't believe a net 72 won this event, must have been a tough course, and no bandits...

Yes, the wind made it tough.  Due to some quirk of topography the wind always seemed to be in your face on the front 9 as well.  The pin positions made it even harder, on some holes even if you hit the green you still had a 20/30yd putt, and in my case this meant that I had to putt from the green onto the fringe and back on the green.  Tricky.

I also claim trick shot of the weekend on the 6th.  Drove 150yds before the ball hit a tree which then proceeded to roll back down the cart path (with a few attempts at getting back on the grass), until it stopped by the ladies tee, some 15 yds in front of us.  Beat that.

I am quite sure that given decent weather conditions the course would be enjoyable, the wind was not so strong on the Sunday, and those of us who played then managed quite respectable scores. The problem, for me, on the Monday was the intensity of the wind which seemed to be against on every hole and the change in temperature to something we have not experienced on a course this winter.

Playing off the whites would not have made a lot of difference to the scores IMO as for most of us the holes were playing too long to reach in regulation figures anyway.

Yesterday I played in our Seniors Roll-up on the Wellington course off the back tees and managed a very nice nine over par playing off my roll-up handicap of fourteen which gave me 41 points and another 2 shot cut to 12. So now I have three handicaps. Roll-up 12, Golfshake 14.4 and club 16.1 I might add that I won with that score and will be pleased to be called a bandit, yes, even from Pat.

Good work John, im not sure anyone will dare call you a bandit, for fear of retribution!

That is exactly what they are calling me at the club, Luke, as you can see by the remarks made by our Senior Captain in the email to all competitiors.

Hi The conditions today were reasonably good and the scoring reflected that.  The lack of rough and dry conditions probably mean that we are all scoring as low at this time of the year as we will at any other time – so make the most of your good scoring! John P had yet another good day – we really will have to stop believing that he has a gammy leg.  More likely, as he hits a 1 iron, is that he has some divine intervention on his side. Tim, think I hit the same tree.  Mine went 20 yards up in the air higher than the tree, came back down and hit the tree again but shot out to the right landing just the over side of the cart path.
