Set me a target
After getting my first season out they way well (10 months) and got my club handicap down to 27 or 26 on here, what should be a realistic target to aim for this year. I ll be playing nearly every weekend and 14 holes once during the week, I will take a few lessons as well.
What targets are you setting yourself for the upcoming season

The worlds your oyster. If your alreday playing below a 28 handicap after only your first 10 months then you obviously have some natural ability. I would imagine that if you're playing twice a week then you could easily get down to middle or low teens especially with some profesional help.
Why dont you review you in depth stats using golfshake and identify where you losing shots. I would suggest you aim to get your FIR over 75% and GIR over 50% consistently and your putts to below 36 for every round.
What do i know, there are far better advisers than me on this site but my tuppence worth to get this thread started.

My target for this year is not to come last in a Golfshake event!!!
I'm not worried about the handicap so much, just want to improve the consistency, reduce the number of bad shots per round and be better on average than last year. The handicap will take care of itself then. Also I'd like to break 90 for the first time. The N v S would be a good time to do that!!!

Chris,
You'd better break 90 if I'm to partner you!!!!!
How's the lessons going??
John.

Not too bad thanks John. Had three and he's got me producing a draw. The guy is a miracle worker! Seriously, the bad ones aren't as bad and the good ones are really good. Just need to get an element of consistency in it now - prectice, practice, practice.
When do you go to Florida?

3 weeks & counting
I knew Carl would sort you out, you wouldn't believe how bad I was 18 months ago but he sorted me out.
You could be the dark horse at the NvS.

I heard all the bandit comments at the end of season cup. I proved you all wrong then! Gonna be spending a bit of time as a range monkey to build the consistency.

It is as the course should be played without handicap. If you hit the greens in regulation according to your handicap then you are not getting better in my eyes.

Yep FIR and GIR are based on par not taking into account your handicap.
For each hole it is assumed you take 2 putts so GIR for par 4 is 2 shots and par 5 3 shots.
You will notice that on a par 3 there is no option for a FIR, it's not possible you can only get a GIR.
For anyone new , golf definitions are here

And it has to be the correct fairway for the hole you're playing. If it wasn't my FIR stats would be loads better.

This is the 303 yrd par 4 9th at pedham place. Drove through the green with a 3 wood a coupkle of months back.

Worked for me that day. Chipped on and putted for a birdie.

A reduction in handicap is now called for, Danny.

You state that you drove through the green, implying that you didnt land on the green. I dont think you can count this as FIR but if you brought it back on for 2 then it is definately GIR.
Overshooting the green is as useful as overshooting a runway and shouldnt be confused with good play as it certainly coulnt be confused as good flying.
I accept that in some circumstances taking the danger in front of the green out of play by playing to back is worthwhile but i dont think this would have been your intention from the tee 303 yards away.
Whatever your intention was i bet it felt good at the time

It landed a good 30 yrds short of the green, but just kept running.

Id say greens in reg are most important, if you can get there without hitting the fairways in reg then who cares where you land off the tee
