Club fitting question
Is it possible to have my existing clubs checked and fitted for me. Or is it simpler and cheaper to just get this done in the future with a new set.
Any suggestions where would be the best place to get this done
Thanks
Colin

Do you adjust loft / lie by bending the hosel?
I think the main change i will need is having the shafts shortened

Colin, no need to get them shortened, just go down the shaft to where you feel comfortable.

Up to a point John. Being a bit of a short arse with wide shoulders myself I found that with standard length shafts I was gripping the club too low down. Not quite on the shaft, but my thumb was almost on the collar of the grip. A slightly shorter shaft and a chunkier grip cured it until I got my new set made. The man who built my clubs had an hydraulic press to get the lie angle right, but basically it was the same as belting the head with a hammer only quieter.

Hi Tim, I don't think being short was the cause of you having to grip down the shaft, more likely your stance was not upright enough.
So what are the lie angle settings on your new clubs?

To be honest John, I have no idea. I just stood in his workshop and swung at a marker on the floor to see the impact width. He then tweeked each one to suit.

I once had a set of berylium copper Pings and they were green dot, which if I remember correctly is 2degrees upright.
I have no idea what the clubs I use now are, but I am happy with them.

The marks on my club face showed that i was hitting mainly off the toe so i took them to a firm called Z.F.L. up here in newcastle to have loft and lie checked ,however i was told that as they were Wilson fat shaft they could only be done at the factory. my shaft length was measured and found to be too long for me and the grips a little thin, the cost for doing this work was only £5 per club , total £45 for the irons. cheaper than buying a new set, i've only played one game since but my shots did seam straighter, hope its not wishfull thinking.
p.s. had it been possible to do loft and lie the cost would have been £2-50 per club
