Adams Golf

Posted by: user44459 | Wed 23rd Jan 2008 21:52 | Last Reply

I bought an Adams driver a few months ago which I'm really happy with. Is there any reason why the UK press never rate Adams products or include them in their reviews & round ups? I know they're a big thing in America and noticed that Aaron Baddely and Rory Sabatini have switched this season on the PGA Tour. Also have Direct Golf some sort of exclusity in the UK? If you go there to buy anything they will always point you in the direction of the Adams corner.

I started with the original tight lies 3 wood now check whats in my bag,

Adams tight lies GT irons £24 ebay vitually unused RRP £400+

Adams ST driver £15 freind of a freind never used RRP £100+

Adams tight lies 3 wood  £30 county golf brand new RRP £120+

Adams tight lies 7 wood £14 ebay almost brand new

Adams Tight lies gap wedge £7 ebay almost brand new

I shopped 2nd hand and bought the entire set of Adams for less tha i paid for the putter, still enough left for that elusive 5 wood when one becomes available.

I Use the Adams GT strong 3 wood, and its by far the most forgiving 3 wood ive tried and at 13* its great off the tee or off the fairway. I picked it up off of ebay in great condition with a head cover for £18 delivered!!!

Well worth a look if you want a good 3 wood on a buget.

Apparently the Adams Idea set of hybrids are the most used on the US tour. They usually go for big money on ebay, even 2nd hand.

Does any body know what the difference between a 5 wood & a strong 5 wood is?

I have the strong 7 wood and in my hands goes 160 yards virtually every time

the 3 wood tends more often than not to land around 250 yards

so i am trying to judge whether i need the 5 or strong 5

You are a powerful striker, Colin, 250 yds with a three wood. Perhaps it is I who needs the instruction.

Ok ive been checked and there is a slight problem. The range i went to finishes at the the boundary with some woods 200 yards away. The 7 wood as stated before stayed between the 150 and 160 mark, where it hit the ground and didnt roll much in the long grass but my 3 wood shots were still in the air when they hit the trees or net, whichever got in the way first. Admittedly some grounded out around the base of the trees but I couldnt judge how far the others would have flown, i imagine they had a good 20 yards left in them before they were going to hit the floor. The driver was eaier to gauge distance as that rarely got over 100 yards .

Just out of interest when stating distances should you count where it hits the floor or where it ends up?

I think it is fair to say that the final distance is how far you have hit it, Colin, but I would say that it is imperative to know how far you can carry each club, so that you can get over the brooks and streams, over ponds and lakes and those irritating bunkers that always seem to be between you and the pin.

Sounds as though you can hit a good solid ball with that three wood of yours.

I must have the same driver as you.

I never use the driver on the course, only been in the bag a few months and i just cant hit it or any other driver i have ever tried. I just cannot hit it as far as the 3 wood. Havnt checked how far i can hit  the 7 iron. I have always played by what a shot looks like, i have no idea how far i hit any of my clubs just playing by what instinctively comes to hand. long par threes 7 iron short par threes 8 or 9.

I have just recently started to vist the range to determine my distances to see if knowing this value can improve my game and lower my scores. I have probably only been on the range 8 times ever. 3 of those occasions were this week.

I did a very similar thing over christmas. hit 46 on the front nine but 31 on the 2nd attempt  Par threes are not usually my problem. quite handy with the 8 iron upwards but 7 down is my achiles heel. I will try what you exactly what you have suggested as soon as i can and let you know.

Thanks for the link David. most interesting.

its got me thinking

If Darren could add a feature whereby members upload their avg distances with each club in the bag. We would see what the mean distance and spread is for any given handicap. Purely for interest.

Wouldnt be quite as interesting as that post which described how a golf balls hardness could be determined by dropping balls onto concrete and recording the sound with a microphone. Am i sad that i enjoyed that post?

I`ve used Adams Tight Lies GT Irons for 4 years. They were getting a bit tatty so I thought that I would treat myself to some new expensive irons - Ping, Callaway, Titleist, etc. However after trying them all I decided that I preferred my old Adams Irons and so ended up buying myself a set of new Adams Tight Lies Irons off of eBay for less than £100. Personally I feel that the Adams are just as good as the expensive brands.
