Hi Guys, just wondered if my golf shake H/C is valid in conjunction with the R & A, is it noticed as a real H/C.

The easy answer is 'no'

The R&A don't administer handicap, that'll be congu in England. To have a 'proper' or 'official' handicap you have to be a member of a affiliated golf club.

The golfshake handicap is suitable for societies and any course that sees it as an acceptable demonstration of your golfing ability. It would not be acceptable for use in Open competitions etc.

Steve, Brian is correct. The R&A only just provide the rules around how the handicap is used in competition and not how handicaps are calculated.

A handicap allows players of all levels of golfing ability to compete against each other equally and, consequently, is essential to the popularity and prosperity of the game.

In the UK - CONGU administer handicaps for golf club members and the the only way to have what is deemed as an 'official' golf handicap is by being a member of an affiliated golf club and playing in official golf club competitions. I would argue against the use of the word 'proper' though Brian

If you aren't a member of an affiliated club or don't play in competitions then Golfshake provides a create way to track your handicap level online.

The handicap we provide is a reflection of your playing ability and widely accepted by courses in the UK and around the world for those that have handicap restrictions.
