The Secret World of Golf Playing Rabbits

Posted by: user88724 | Tue 13th May 2014 11:48 | Last Reply

It is reputed that the interest of rabbits in golf escalated shortly after 1797 following the insolvency of St. Andrews Golf Club. Around that time the Town Council of St. Andrews decided to allow rabbit farming on the golf course and sold the land to local merchants for that purpose.

Rabbits are of course similar to both cats and sheep, they get into anything. Their insatiable curiosity almost knows no bounds and they proved keen to fully exploit their natural surrounds. The more affluent of their number having miniature custom clubs and bags made.

Golf playing rabbits effectively ousted human golfers for around twenty years at St. Andrews before the land was eventually bought back for human golfer use only.

By that time rabbits interest in golf had spread throughout Europe, but due to persecution games had to be restricted to after nightfall.

Because of the small size of rabbits, and the comparative immense size of golf courses the rabbits handicap system extends up to 320, but otherwise the amateur game is played exactly the same. Rabbits do however prefer black golf balls. Sometimes a large number of practice balls are abandoned when disturbed.

Unfortunately though, due to the high level of illiteracy amongst rabbits rules and etiquette are not widely followed. This does cause annoyance to human players who occasionally complain about their loose divots.

One human fool once commented to me that the divots left by rabbits are not really divots but scratchings for worms.

Sorry, but rabbits do not eat worms and (bar very rare rabbit vandals) never damage greens. And there I rest my heavy case.
