Am I buying at the wrong time?
Bit of a dilemma here gentlemen, Santa is just round the corner and I have decided to ask him for a new Driver. I've had my MX500 for a year now and with it being an 11.5 degree it was perfect for my 28 handicap.
A year on and I am hovering around the 14 mark - I am basically hitting the ball far to high now. Went to American Golf and they had me hitting balls on there laser guided machine thingy. I know I should go to the Belfry and get properly fitted, but I have scraped enough money together - about £200, wothout having to spend another £50 getting fitted.
I tried the Taylor Made Burner, Callaway Big Bertha, Cobra Speed and the Nike Sasquatch. I was actually hitting the ball really well and he recommened a 9.5 degree driver but I just feel I need something more forgiving - hence I think I will plum for the 10.5 degree one in the end.
Anyway I felt just right with the Nike in my hand. Now finally to the problem. I have seen the driver in Snainton Golf for £169 http://www.snaintongolf.co.uk/product.php/814/nike_golf_sasquatch_sumo_driver
Its £200 in American golf and basically this is the cheapest price I can find - I havebought from them before and the delivery is lightning fast.
I was reading Todays Golfer and the new Nike Sumo 5000 driver is coming out soon - anyone know when???
So finally to the point. Should I buy the driver above, then Nike release the new driver and the one I bought drops drasically in price or should I wait??
Bloody hell that was long winded....over to you guys!!

Personally, Chris I could not justify paying £200 for a driver. They come with no guarantee whatsoever in the golf performance field. My wealthy friend has the Nike Sumo and he hits it so high it almost goes into orbit. Good luck anyway.

Has anybody any ideas when the Sumo 5000 is due out - theres nothing on the Nike website?

Chris,
I bought the same driver on line from Edwin Watts in the US for $199 (£98). I used them as I had bought my irons from them in the summer while on holiday nad the service was exceptional. There is a delivery charge, but I was also buying a 3 and 5 wood and the charge didn't change. With the delivery charge, it cost me £50 than it would had I just bought the driver. Got htem DHL in 5 days.
It's worth noting that they do a loyalty scheme that gives you 15% (I think) off any one item as soon as you sign up as a golden hello.

Chris,
If you buy the driver from the Belfry you get the £50 custom fit refunded, I can't praise them high enough.

Nice one John, may treat myself to that in the coming weeks.
Does anybody think I am buying at the wrong time? Should I wait for the new equipment?

Chris,
There really isn't a wrong & right time as there will always be new equipment every few months. just because it's new doesn't mean to say it's better.
If you get custom fitted they will advise you what brand, shaft, loft, grip size etc that will improve / assist your swing.
John.
