Golf courses in south Manchester

I'd be interested to hear any opinions on the golf clubs/courses of south Manchester. I am moving to the area this spring but have never played the local courses. I currently live in Nottingham and am a member at Wollaton Park GC.

I expect to be living in Chorlton/Didsbury, and so have seen that any of the following clubs would be very close: Didsbury, Chorlton, Northenden, Withington and Sale. However, I'm not looking solely at these very local courses and would be interested regarding other courses in Cheshire, Stockport GC has caught my eye.

I'm particularly keen to know how the courses fair in the wet weather, are they often closed, or played on winter greens etc.
