The approved ranges are:

Par 3 - up to 250 yards, Par 4 - 220 to 500 yards, Par 5 - 440 to 720 yards, Par 6 - 660+ yards

The overlaps between the categories allow for consideration of factors other than length such as:

uphill/downhill, doglegs, position of water and other hazards, terrain, etc. etc.
