Running on empty

This game always finds a way of kicking you where it hurts. Last week I went to Cardrona near Peebles with some pals with high hopes of some good scores. I'd been playing better than handicap (12) for the previous 10 rounds. Day 1 was OK and. having played the course, was expecting a good round on day 2. Well I played the worst round for over a year - 97 - and felt tired, uninterested and un co -ordinated. Like I was just going through the motions. It was warm and humid, and a slow round and I lost the plot. I didn't take anything to eat or drink and the course was 5 miles plus in length. Schoolboy errors. The game of golf "brings you down to earth with a crash" when you're getting too big for your boots.
