Update with my little lad.

Posted by: user40826 | Wed 19th Jun 2013 22:00 | Last Reply

So its been a few years now since I posted my lads swing and now he's a full member of my golf club attending free coaching sessions on a Monday night at the club. Nearly 40 kids turn up every week! Its quality. He's in the youngest group at the age of 5

Anyway he completed his first hole on Monday, a Par 4, 125 yards in 6 shots, including a 15 foot putt

[Jack, Hole 2, Market Drayton Golf Clucb, Shropshire][1]

Proud dad moment.

Hi Chris. Jack's swing is coming on nicely.

I hope that I will see him at the Kenilworth Junior Masters in a couple of years time.

Forty kids for group lessons is superb. As a junior organiser I would love to have a chat with those involved to see what they have done to generate so much interest.

Richard

Thanks Richard.

What's the Kenilworth Masters? He wants to play in a competition NOW!

It is a great set up at the club. We basically pay £20 joining fee for the year from March to the end of September and every session is free. We train each week on a Monday from 5:30pm - 6:45pm. The coaches volunteer their time but are all qualified.

They have various competitions throughout the year and we have a big competition to raise money for the Junior Academy. A fun day with golf challenges - its a good crack.

For a smallish club, we do have a very healthy junior membership, under 12s free, 12-16, £75, 16-18, £156 and under 30s, £315 - All full 7 day memberships.

Get in touch with them and ask a few questions, can't hurt.

Give the club a ring

I take my daughter to Stone driving range where they do a wide range of junior coaching, she's coming along now but I think she needs some lighter clubs. She just started to hit her irons off the floor and I'm really impressed by the coaching she gets there and how well she's coming along.

Chris, could she join Market Drayton even if I am not a member? for £20 it would be great to get her involved. I took her to a pitch and putt in north wales this weekend and she is great at her full shots but as she only plays at the range her short game and putting really needs some work now.

And Richard speak to the guys at stone they are rammed some weeks filling half the range, they have just had to put on an extra saturday group because of the demand and I'm sure there are plenty of youngsters there who would be interested in entering your open.

Gary,

Swing is coming along nicely. I'm loving it at the moment, the sessions are getting better. Lot's of focus on fundamentals and getting the start of the swing correct. They even had Jack using the Explaner swing aid this week. The junior one is tiny!

I shouldn't think it would be a problem to get her at the club. Give them a ring or drop them an email.

Looking forward to seeing you up at the club.

Chris,

I've spoken to the pro and I'm taking my girl along tonight hopefully (as long as I don't get stuck at work).

So I'll maybe see you there

Good to meet you tonight Gary, hope your little one enjoyed her first session. Did Russ take you around the course?

Good to meet you to. I was very impressed with the set up, the volunteers helping out with the academy were fantastic and are doing a great job. I can honestly say it was as friendly a welcome as I have ever received at a golf club and my little girl had a great time.

Rob gave me the full tour looks a great course, very tight and the 2 pat 3's he showed me looked like great little holes.

I was so impressed in fact I'm thinking of taking up the discounted second membership rate. If I do I'll say you recommended the place if it gets you any rewards

So pleased you enjoyed it. It is a great club and set up. They really do value the juniors, right down to the youngest - they are the future of our great club after all.

I'm glad you were impressed with the course, which par 3s did you see? It is a good test of golf, a real thinking course.

I really hope you do join and I'll see you in a few competitions this year. Mention my name, I think there is a recommend scheme, but just glad to get new members.
