1st Comp - DQ'd
I entered my first comp weekend gone, Whitebox Stableford. Finished T26th... and got disqualified lol
Rule 6-3 - Failure to start on time
I and a friend had a lesson before the comp with the club pro, we left an hour and a half for the lesson and then to tee off, we overran on the lesson and ended up waiting on the first for a society, 3x4balls.
Oh well I scored 32 points which wasn't too bad and the lesson helped a lot.
We live, We learn eh

I would recomend not having lessons before a comp, you need time to bed in what you have learnt.
The golf course is no place for ironing iron swing changes

yes ive learnt that lesson now. I was almost dead by the 15th having played 5 holes before the competition. The only major tip he gave me was with the driver.
also combine this with the pair of new shoes I decided to break in on the course (also a very bad idea) I now have to massive beautiful blisters to show for it.
I was a very wounded golfer that day, on the flip side, I slept like a baby that night

you also can't practice on the same course before the competition

yet another lesson learnt then. im surprised the pro didn't say anything as its his local course and he knew full well that we were going into the tournament in the afternoon.

Alun, he's not stupid - he wanted your money!

A very cynical view Richard
You're probably right though

Unless you enter comps for free he still made a couple of pennies off of you.

Lol as it goes well don't pay for competitions as we get 3 free to get our official handicaps. The pro knew this too. It doesn't matter as he was good and I'd happily pay for his time
