2013 target - tick (insert big smiley)
2012 was not the best of years, more like one of the very worst. During the year I bettered(?) my worst stableford score for 30 years on four occasions - previous worst had been 26pts but I managed a 22, a 23 and two 24's.
Cue new driver and irons, bought Oct/Nov. Little golf played with them due to the weather but after a few games with them I felt the right choices had been made.
The last 5 rounds read 73, 76, 76, 74, 73, against a par of 72. Having climbed from 5.2, last Feb, to 6.3 by Nov, the two qualifiers in the last few weeks sees me back down to 5.2.
And its nice to get a set of irons with which I can work the ball a wee bit with... The target was to get back to Cat 1, but now I'm thinking that I need to look at getting lower than 5 this year.

Brian, Im just interested what a good player goes for for good workabillity. Im sure you arnt swayed by the "11 yrds further than last years model" Sales bullcrap. What clubs did you go for Brian? Dave CAC handed Geordie.

Titliest 712cb's. I can hit a soft fade easier with them - it lands with less run. As for the 11yds further, I'd just take one extra club.
If you check the lofts of modern GI irons you'll see that what they are calling a 6 iron, actually has a 5 iron loft - hence the extra yds. The real problem arises when it comes to short irons into the green, and hence the need to buy extra wedges.
