SH

Don't worry about Wayne.  He may look like a bumbling old fool, but underneath he really is a bumbling old fool.

The only way to try a driver really is to get onto a range or course and smack a few balls.  Nothing on a simulator comes close.

Depends what facilities you've got around you.  We're lucky because we have a huge pro-shop at a nearby course with a driving range, they tape the clubs up and let you loose.

If you go to one of the golf barns they've usually got an electronic range, they'll probably tape a few clubs up even if they don't do an analysis.  Try as many as they let you, if possible the same make and model with a regular and a stiff shaft.  Some just feel better than others and thats all you can really go on at the moment.  Before they persuade you to buy it get called away urgently and then find the same model miles cheaper on the net.

Nothing wrong with the FX9 Mr Hoops, got one myself, goes well, good shaft, plenty long enough and due to me being a bit tight it's right in my price bracket...

It's a strange thing this golf.  When you first start you worry about how you'll play against other people, the embarassement of the scuffed first tee shot, the general feeling that you aren't good enough and worrying about asking golf shops for help.  Then you give up caring and just neck it out, I wouldn't think twice about asking to try every club in a shop and not buying them, you just get used to it.  It's a competetive market out there...

Having said that, you ought to give a Big Ben CS3 a shot.  Only £60 on e-bay, top notch shaft and they are LOUD.
