handicap

Posted by: user72704 | Sat 13th Oct 2007 14:45 | Last Reply

I shot a nett 66 one over s s s ( at Bewdley pines Worcestershire), but still got cut .4 .  I assume this was because I scored 41 points. How does this work?

Your handicap is worked out at a maximum of 2 over. So if you scored an 8 on a par 4, only  a 6 counts.

Thanks for reply. With 5 shots better than 36 I thought I would be cut 5x.4 =2. Taking me from 27.3 to 25.3 instead of 26.9( as Golfshake worked out). Cj Edmonds

Just to clarify.

Danny the ruling is a nett double bogey after you handicap is taken into account.  So off a 28 handicap on a SI 1 par 4 the maximum score would in affect be 8. 8 less your 2 stroke handicap allowance would be 6 and this would then be the 2 over rule.  Therefore scores of 9 or above in this scenario would be reduced to only 8.

CJ, wayne is correct about the SSS, generally anything over 36 stableford points should see a reduction but to cloud matters the stableford points work out on the par for each hole but the handicap calculations also take into account the SSS (standard scratch score) which can be different to the actual par.   So whilst you shot 5 points over the average 36 you only came in with 1 shot under the SSS resulting in the 1 adjustment to your handicap of 0.4

Was there an shot adjustments to take into account ?  I'll happily double check if you want, just need to know the course this was for and the date of the round.

Regards, Darren.

Hi CJ, this is my next big headache tidying the tee data, you will see why.

I've doubled checked and all seems okay.  You shot 93 but received a 2 stroke adjustment on the first hole that was par 5 stroke index 17 given you had a 10 and the worst score allowed for handicappingfor you is 8. This reduced your score to 91 after your handicap adjustment of 27.3, adjusted playing of 27, this gave a nett of 64.  Although you are probably right in that the correct SSS is 66 the score card in the system you have used is actually 65.  Therefore based on your nett and the SSS used you were 1 under resulting in the 0.4 drop.

And it does appear that there are 5 almost exact scorecards in the system for the yellow tees at Bewdley.  An admin system is in place to allow for tee cleansing and I hope to begin this process very soon.

Hope this helps, any problems let me know.

Regards,  Darren.

Thanks Darren. That all makes sense. I did use the right card(65), but as you say there are incorrect cards in the system. Thanks once again Cj
