My Golfing Rebirth

Posted by: user71861 | Fri 12th Oct 2007 17:30 | Last Reply

Hello All,

I am soon get back out there on this great countrys courses after an 10 year golfing sabatical. Sure there have been the odd round here and there with some suprising results and some rather unsurprising double digit scores but its time to get serious!!

Now to the point. My period away form the game has also coincided with me leaving my pubesent years behind and entering adulthood and the clubs I once used to hack my way round Royal Ascot are now a good foot short of shaking hands with the grass.

I would appreciate any guidance in a good set of clubs for me to purchase or things to remember when buying my "starter" set!!

I will then set about endangering the lives of pond life across the nation and making sure bunker rakes never need to claim the doll.

All comments appreciated.

Sogs

1. Seek out a local pro and book a lesson with him/her.  They will loan you a club or two for the lesson and give you advice on what will suit your (current) swing.

2. Try before you buy - and try lots!!!  Best if you can try on a range where you can actually see what the ball does as opposed to a computer interpretation in a net.

3. If you are not average size, make sure you get fitted

4. Don't get any equipment from Sports World; you'll regret it within minutes (except Dunlop LoCo balls - they're quite good and at about £8.00 for 24 you won't mind losing a few)

This is based on my experience (and mistakes) having upgraded my entire bag in the last four months.  I'm sure some of the more experienced guys on here will give you much more reasoned advice.  Chris Watmore works in a pro shop so he my be able to give you some very good guidance.

thanking you kindly.

at 10am sunday morning i will take to the first tee @ royal ascot for what will surely be an illuminating 3 or so hours, with my borrowed equipment!!

take each shot as it comes to apply a footballin adage. and agree its all about the dancefloor. from memory i was okay on and around greens just very short off the tee.

clubs to be bought next week and i have enlisted the help of my 3 handicapper mate to guide me further.

thanks again.
