Posted by: user449768 | Tue 8th Jan 2013 18:24 | Last Reply

As above really. Ive just booked a good deal for the end of march for a golfing weekend for a group of us and just wanted some info on the course and hotel.

Yes, Mike, played it many times as it is a local one for me. It is a very severe test of ones playing abilities but very enjoyable nevertheless. The accommodation is first class and you will be well looked after I am quite sure.

Only downside is, it is a very long course with some very long walks between the first and second, eighth and ninth and ninth and tenth tees.

Thanks John. I have heard its long so have practised mainly with long irons and my fairway woods. It was mentioned about the long trek between holes but luckily part of the deal is buggies. 1 of the guys going is newish to golf but is having lessons so it may be make or break if he continues to play after this visit.

I wouldn't say it's massively long Mike, it's only 6500 off the yellows, but as John says it's the walks between tees that stretches it out. The front nine is reasonably undulating (but then I play mostly in Derbyshire/South Yorks where we have real hills) so it depends what you're used to, but the back nine is almost flat. The fairways are pretty open though so your friend shouldn't have too many problems. I played it as a bit of a rookie and made it round OK. Well, apart from one hole, where I managed my first ever 300 yard drive - problem was it went forwards about 150, hit a tree, dropped onto the cart path and rolled back down the hill and finally stopped just behind us on the tee.

Tim, I remember that drive of yours on the 6th at Donnington.

The course is 6576 off the yellows but us southerners always play golf from the white tees, which makes it over 7000 yards.
