Golf subscriptions
Does anybody know where a member stands if they wish to leave their current golf club halfway through the year & they pay the membership fees by direct debit?
Is it frowned upon? Is it legal? Can they deny you this right?
Thanks, JF

This situation has arisen at my club and they pursued the member through the courts, and won, he had to pay the full year up, plus costs.

I would expect that to be the case. When you take a membership you sign a contract where they agree to provide a service (membership) for 12 months for a set payment. Unless they are willing to agree a mutual termination you (or your 'friend') will be required to keep up your (their) half of the contract by paying up

I seem to think that if one contacts the company dealing with the D\D and also has a 'reasonable' reason to stop it, the Club must accept it. But of course one loses all Club privilages.

My last club used to chase people via the small claims court if they left mid way thro' the year.
