G-Tour

Posted by: user246626 | Thu 22nd Nov 2012 16:46 | Last Reply

Have been having a look at the G-Tour and am seriously considering entering. Has anyone on here entered before and if so, how would you rate it? Also can't seem to find out when you can begin entering events

Hi Chris and Adam.

I've played on the Gtour since its very 1st event at Staverton Park in 2009 and played around 35 events over the last 4 years.

I'd rate it very highly, it's extremely well run, playing some decent golf courses with some like minded golfers.

I've always found it great fun to play in and everybody I have met is very welcoming.

If you, like me, wish to play new courses, meet a wide variety of golfers from all walks of life with a competative edge I'd highly recommend the Gtour.

Plus the Gtour has some great sponsors with a chance of qualifying to play in the grand final in Cyprus.

At the moment you need to register your interest in playing an event or a number of events. Go on the Gtour website, clic on the 2013 schedule then view the events that take your fancy, there is an option to register/subscribe to that event.

Payment facility for the events will be live later in the year but you do need to register your interest first.

Hope that helps.

Feel free to ask any other questions about the Gtour and I'll be glad to help

Thanks Adrian Does the entry fee just include the golf or is there anything else included?

No problem Adam.

Entry fee includes the golf and usually bacon bap,tea/coffee before you tee off.

The organisers normally also provide a bottle of water and some chocolate along with sponsors information leaflets.

Someone is there to take photos of you teeing off, sometimes on the course and when you finish on the 18th. These you can download from facebook or from the tour gallery.

Prizes from the sponsors for the winners

To anyone thinking about playing on the Gtour, go for it. You will not regret it. I have played on the tour since its first event at Staverton Park in April 2009 and would recommend it to anyone. You will meet some great people and have a great experience of competitive golf on great courses with great prizes. Everyone is made to feel welcome and the tour is open to any level of golfer, male or female. Please go to their website and check out the feedback from players and player reviews of some of the courses we have played. 2013 introduces some new venues so now there is no better time to register to play on tour next year. Hope to see some of you there Shane

Hi Adam, Chris, Alan. I am also a Gtour regular and would highly recommend giving it a try. As others have replied, the tour is exceptionally well run, great courses, great prizes and opportunities to meet new golfers and make some new friends. If you check out the website you should be able to register and will receive e-mail updates. Plus you can keep up to date on Facebook and Twitter. Hope to see you on tour in 2013. Jon

Hi All, hope you dont mind mind but i thought id jump in to answer any questions that you might have. I run the Gtour and 2013 will be our 5th season and 3rd Race to Cyprus.

In previous years we did not release our dates until closer to the season but feedback we received was that players need to plan hence why we have announced our dates much earlier this year. For now you can register your interest to play any events and when payments are being taken we will PM all those who have registered. For any which are oversubscribed we will send details to those who regsitered first and give them a grace period to confirm their places.

All events inc the 18 holes and tea / coffee bacon rolls beforehand. Where possible we try to add value to the events and all players who play in their 1st event in 2013 will receive an Aim-Mate www.aim-mate.com worth 16.99 from our tour partners. In addition we have prizes for top places at each event from our tour sponsors inc Bunker Mentality www.bunker-mentality.com and others to be announced.

As mentioned in Alan's post above we use golfshake hcp system to manage the events so if you are already a golfshake member you can log into the Gtour site and register for events using your standard golfshake credentials.

If anybody has any more questions I would be pleased to answer them either here, via email or on our facebook and twitter channels.

thanks Colin, will be my 1st year on the tour and really looking forward to it. Have currently registered for 4 events, do you know when you will be able to start payment? Also do many players have caddies or is it more of a friendly round of golf than a competitive round?

Hi Adam, I expect payments will begin at the beginning of December. Re caddies, this is absolutely fine but most players don't (maybe 1 or 2 per event normally) you'll find it a relaxed event with socialising as high on the agenda as competition in equal measure. The OOM we have devised is a very levelling system which doesn't allow anyone to shoot to far into the lead and by the same token makes it possible to stake a comeback if you have a poor round at one of your events.

Thanks Colin. Am hoping to play in every single event and as soon as i can pay i will, so i can guarantee my place. Does it usually work by paying for the earlier events first or do all the events open at the same time if you know what i mean.

Hi Adam, we will open up the first few events in a couple of weeks and then the later events a bit nearer to the end of the year. You'll be in good company, a few of the guys who play in a lot of, if not all events have already posted above

To anyone who knows:

How common are caddies on the tour? My friend wants to caddie for me but I don't want to be the only guy their with a caddie!

Cheers

Hi Chris,

Caddies are not that common but certainly not frowned upon.

In the 30 plus rounds I've played on the Gtour IRC about 3 playing partners had caddies.

I had a caddie when I did the 2011 semi-finals, a single figure handicapper (Martin Millichip) and a much better player than me. As we are regular matchplay partners he knows my game pretty well and it can be a confidence booster having someone with that ability helping. So really it depends what you want one for, just having a mate going round to take the pin out? May or may not be helpful. Someone who is more experienced and can be positive even after your fourth duffed shot on the same hole? A real help.

PS - the trophy is absolutely brilliant

Thanks for the compliment Tim, though I do recall the pep talk after 4 duff shots on a lot of holes !!!!!!!!! LOL
