How much would that cost? Looks a lovely course.

Probably why I have never seen anyone on the course when I have passed it.

You're right there John. It's never been busy when I've played.

An overhyped new course set up for major professional golf, which has never materialised because there are so many similar ones.
These courses only attract the wealthy who cannot play the game.
In fact it is corporate golf that has wrecked the game in this country and that is why Green Fees are totally out of control.
The problem is caused by too many societies who play a few times a year and are prepared to pay through the nose for that pleasure, this affects the golfer who plays on a permanent basis.
How on earth can anyone pay £30 Sat and Sunday for a game of golf and do it throughout a complete year unless they have more money than sense. That is over £3000 per annum.
Played behind a society at my club last Monday and I repaired at least six pitchmarks on every green, the round took four and half hours and the four immediately in front of me were on the first tee with two of the players with shirts hanging out of their trousers. I often wonder if these people ever have any personal pride.

Yes but some of those people that play in corporate days do also play on a regular basis or have done in the past and therefore do have pride in the game and the course.
I myself now find the only time I can play 18 holes is if I'm playing at a corporate day, but I don't leave pitchmarks and divots and will only play if I'm in the correct attire.

You don't have to justify yourself to me Sandra, but surely you must agree that what I said is commonplace these days.
I admit I don't work now being 70 years old but I also had to work and mostly seven days a week, being an International truck driver, and I paid full subscription as a member of a golf club which entitled me to play whenever I wanted and without having to worry about societies and others just turning up and getting a game. Green Fees were only allowed on weekdays and societies not ever. That is a real golf club.
I doubt you have noticed that all these new courses are built to USGA standards, which means that they will never ever attain the quality of those established at the turn of the century and the reason is because of the seed used. This is why we have all had to turn to soft spikes because these new courses just cannot take any form of wear and tear like the old ones. A backward step IMO.
Everyone without fail will always say that they repair pitchmarks and replace divots, so who is causing all this damage to our courses?

Sadly, you are right, David.

Yes seen it myself but the daft thing is they must be decent players to be landing irons on the greens...

Even the worst players in the world eventually get to a green Tony.

But generaly a picthmark is left by a well struck iron onto the green. I see it as a sense of achievment if i make a pitch mark, and part of the feeling is repairing the pitchmark.

Having played with you Danny I know that every shot you make leaves a pitch mark, as everything comes in from 2000 feet.

I'm working on it John. Tried to lighten my grip, which seems to have helped.
Reply : Sun 25th Nov 2007 10:07
That's the idea, keep the muscles relaxed, not tensed.
Reply : Sun 25th Nov 2007 10:16
only coming in from 1500 feet now.

I don 't think you realise the enormous potential you have to be very good at this game. Not a lot needs working on as you have natural power. At the moment you like to use all of it, when on many occasions a more conservative approach would be better.

You're making me blush John.

Just saying it how it is, Danny. If I were you I would be getting a little frustrated at not getting my handicap down with the tools at your disposal. A pity we are too far apart.
