I can recommend De Vere's Wychwood Park which is near Nantwich in Cheshire, its a top course, quite long but a true test with plenty of variation.  There are also the 2 courses at Carden Park near Wrexham (also De Vere), these may be a little bit out of your way but top tracks all the same

Hart Common in Westhoughton (fantastic greens), just outside of Bolton, Old Links of Bolton (very difficult, on top of the moors), and Prestwich near manchester is a test of straightness. very narrow
