Golfers Elbow - Advice

Posted by: user425195 | Fri 23rd Mar 2012 15:35 | Last Reply

After playing for a couple of weeks with pain in my right elbow, I've been diagnosed with Golfers Elbow. I'm lucky enough to have medical insurance so will see a specialist and have access to physio etc. I've got a round booked on Saturday which I'll play as the weather is so good, I can't say no. But after that I'm on complete rest until I'm healed.

My question is, those of you who have had the same experience  - I'm looking for some idea of a. how long I can expect to be out and b. Does this condition really heal properly?

Neeldess to say I'm really p'd off - but resigned to taking the time to heal rather than risk more severe damage!!

Hi Greg you need to get a support http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&q=tennis+elbow+support&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw

&ei=zZhsT4mPHsSAhQespsSZBw&ved=0CJEBEPMCMAA   This will help keep the two tendons from rubbing and inflaming , you can carry on playing whilst wearing support. should clear up 6 to 8 weeks sometimes a lot quicker. There's no need not to play imo. I have had a few times it's always cleared up. Good luck.

Thanks Dave, I played with a support on Saturday and it certainly helped. (Didn't help the score much, but I think it'll take more than a forearm support to do that!). I'm gonna take a couple  of weeks off to give it a chance to settle then hopefully I'm back in play.

I've had golfers / tennis elbow for about 6 weeks now and went along to an Osteopath friend for treatment after the first few days. He's a golfer as well and didn't suggest laying off the game so I've played throughout. I've used both a compression sleeve and a neoprene cuff to give some relief while playing and that helped. My elbow is still a bit painful but it's getting a bit better every day. Good luck

Martin, thanks for that. I'm going to see a physio in a couple of weeks, I'm interested in what sort of treatment you are getting from the osteopath, and how are you resting the injury etc. between treatments.

I'm sititng in my office looking at the sun outside, and can't explain how hard it will be this evening not to go and play 9 holes after I get home!!

I have had golfers elbow and tennis elbow if just depends were it is on the elbow.  A doctor will tell you to rest till it clears up. The only way I have got it to go away is to book a 2 week holiday in the sun and what ever is in the heat when i returned from holidays it was gone.  My friend had it and in so much pain and he went off to Australia for 4 weeks and when he returned he had no pain as well.  It is very sore and painful.
