your thoughts on the belly putter.
i think it should be legal as all it is is new technology. nobody moans about drivers getting longer and longer - so why putters?

the belly putter isn't for me. Thought about getting one a few months ago and then decided against it. It would feel like I was cheating a little bit and not playing the game properly. A bit like stabilisers on a bike, yeah it'll make you cycle straight but you wont get the same enjoyment.
Plus they're ugly as sin!!

Haven't we done this to death a few weeks ago? Putting, like any other shot in golf should be played with two hands (though my chipping of late has been so dire I've even tried using one). John's analogy sums it up in one, it's an outside force stabilizer. Now whether that makes you putt better is debatable but that's not the point. The counter argument that adjustable driver weights etc doesn't wash otherwise cavity clubs would be outlawed too and we'd all be using blades and persimmon's. I mean by all means use them if they're legal but they are what they are.

Hmm, some people I know have a belly putter even though the shaft is only 32" long...

Liam, not much new technology here. The belly putter was first patented in the 1960's. The long putter (chin/chest) has been in use since the 1980's.
The question I always ask myself is this one: If they are that much of an advantage why don't all tour pros use one?
