Algarve final write-up

Posted by: user16163 | Tue 14th Feb 2012 21:11 | Last Reply

After the first three rounds, rounds 4 and 5 are played in reverse order.

round 4 was played at Pina golf course under the same sunshine that had blessed us so far earlir in the week, although this time Martin wasnt having things his own way as per the first 3 rounds, Jim Bates this time took the win with an astonishing 40 points (BANDIT!!!!!!), well played Jim, Martin was also beaten on countback to 2nd place, this time by an up and coming Richard Norton who in the previous rounds had expressed his bemusement on the speed of the algarve greens, a decent round by Darren Millichip saw him jump from 6th place overall to 4th place overall and int the final group for the last days play and now hot on the heels of 3rd placed Tim Hawkins

Round 5 and final competition round was played at Gramacho, the scene of the opening round, an ideal choice of course as the 18th hole has the balcony overlooking it, giving the lower placed players the chance to dish out the banter to the final few as the putts go racing by the hole. normal order of the week was resumed by Martin Millichip as he carefully steered himself to another days victory with a steady 33 points (no 2 on the par 5 this day though!!), second place for the 5th day on the trot went to countback with the bandit Jim Bates taking it from the big hitting Jimmy Govere with 32 points each, then there were 5 players all with 30 points including the 3rd and 4th place players Tim Hakins and Darren Millichip respectively, would they stay in those places after the final figures had been worked out???

The presentation for the prizes was at Georgettes restaurant in Alvor town, Darren Millichip was the Master of Ceromony.

A brief summary of places are as follows :-

1st Place - Martin Millichip

2nd Place - Russ Middleton

3rd Place - Tim Hawkins

4th Place - Jim Bates

5th Place - Jimmy Govere

6th Place - Darren Millichip

and for the 2nd year running the wooden spoon or "BEST EFFORT" went to the colourful Ron Deveraux, can he make it a hatrick next year ;-)

A massive thankyou to everyone who made the trip and had a great time.

congratulations to all the winners

Thankyou

Darren Millichip
