What the club says: The Alhama Signature Course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and is currently managed by Global Golf.

This long and spectacular course has been developed among five great lakes, with original circular tees, wide fairways with rough and rapid greens, 116 bunkers of particular and varied shapes with white silica sand, a paspalum semi-rough that acts as a transition grass between the fairway and the wide rough that defines all this set, to integrate it in a landscape that maintains all the indigenous flora and fauna which is typical of the nearby Sierra de Espuña, with pines, esparto grass, rosemary, thyme among other indigenous species from this area.

Whilst still in it's infancy the course represents a challenge for all levels of golfer, in a desert style setting.

Bad condition

Nice layout but terrible condition. Bad for your clubs and ball. Looked amazing online and should have been a great end to our trip but the worse course we played.

This place should be shut down!!

Played here on May 14, 2023. They went through some hard times, but they now have a new owner. The new owner must not have any money either. This place has 'broke' written all over it. One previous review before COVID stated the player "lost his will to live" halfway through the round. That, in my opinion, was kind of him. It's a crime for this dog track to stay open in its condition. Where to begin? The so-called club house is at best a tin shack. The carts are well past their prime. More on that later. The person at the counter advised us that while it was OK to drive in the fairways, to please not drive in the 'mood' (mud). Allegedly it rained the day before. The range balls appeared to be relics from an archaeological dig. Many were permanently discolored and on too many of them the dimples were worn down about 50% of their depth. The greens and tees were green in color. The tees were fine, but the greens were bumpy and slow. Moreover, the cups looked like they were cut a week earlier. 2-foot putts were a crapshoot to keep on line. Every single bunker was washed out and played as ground under repair. The Bermuda grass fairways were dead. It's a real challenge to kill Bermuda but they managed to do it. We struggled to play preferred lies on the nearly-bare dirt. This place is a joke at best. To top off a horrible experience, my cart died on the 10th hole. Miraculously, they found and delivered a 'fresh' one. Jack Nicklaus designed it, and it could've been something. He should ask to have his name removed from this dump. It's horrible and it deserves to die a painful death. Please avoid this place at all costs! It is literally the worst golf course I've played in decades. They ruined a nice goat farm when they built this wreck of a place. Never again!!

Bad bad bad

Sparse bare patchy fairways. And 99 eros for a round with a buggy. Never again. Robbed. This was once a top 10 course. Now its not even in the top 100000. Make improvements or no one will ever go back. Or offer a discount whole its being refurbished.

Outstanding track

Far and away the best course I’ve played in the Murcia region. This was clearly built as a championship course (I understand the Spanish Open and even Ryder Cup were touted) but the crash put paid to those aspirations. It was closed for a couple of years and the fairways are really in bad shape, but the greens and bunkers are good and the lay out is terrific. May not suit high handicappers as it’s 6800yds off the yellows (7600yds off the whites) but the positioning of the water and sand traps makes shot making a challenge on nearly every hole.

Good but needs improvement

The course is at a good standard considering it's closure for the covid years.
It still has some work to do but it's playing well with local rules pick and place etc.

Good course

Drains really well and playable in wet conditions, good value when other courses are under water. Not the easiest of courses when the wind blows and a good challenge of your ability, greens really good and running true

Great course, needs aproper clubhouse

This really is a great course. Beautifully set up and a proper challenge for all golfers. They do need to get round to putting in a clubhouse that does the course justice though.
It currently looks like a coupe of porta-cabins stuck together. Don't get me wrong here. The welcome is warm and the café style bar serves very good food. It just doesn't fit the quality of the course.
The practice facilities are probably the best I've come across in Spain.
We played here after recent flooding, the course is back in great condition but the bunkers were all GUR.

Played Alhama in January 2016 and January 2017. Enjoyed the course. It is challenging but good shots are rewarded and bad shots punished. If you want to play a course in January then I'd recommend this one.

Played on the 14th & 15th of June, after 3pm the price drops to 39 Euros. Course was in excellent condition, very green, lakes full and bunkers nice and sandy. Adequate pro shop, food in the adjoining bar was excellent as was the hospitality. The par 3s are tough, but overall the course is a fair test of your handicap, well worth a visit.

Played this as a replacement to another course which was cancelled. This is a long hard course and I would have to say that unless you are a single figure player then this is too tough a course for the average golfer like myself. Lots of water and even more sand than the average course there. Would I recommend,?. NO, but then give it a try if you are in the area.

The course is excellent but let down by poor pro shop staff and terrible hire clubs. The Pro shop itself is impressive and sells the latest Nike golf clothing. The staff didn't speak unless they were spoken to and answered with single word answers showing little care for the golfers experience. Given that the shop sells the latest Nike gear it should be embarrassed at charging ?30 for their hire clubs. Antique golf clubs that were so damaged they were almost unusable. Thankfully found alternatives at last minute.

The golf experience however was incredible. Every hole was an experience and had unique features. It is blessed with stunning panoramic views on almost every hole. It is a very long challenging course but throughly enjoyable.

I can overlook the poor shop staff and honestly say this is one of the best courses I've played. Will be returning in future.

An OK course, no water in any of the hazards, a lot of long foliage in the rough meaning you will never find your ball if you stray from the fairway. A few interesting holes but a lot of just long straight holes that don't really excite. Clubhouse is more of a shack with a cafe attached, quite underwhelming really. For a supposed Jack Nicklaus course maybe I expected too much but it really isn't one that I would be bothered about not playing again.

Excellent golf course, very good design and I would disagree with some of the review about it being very long. It's long from the whites but you can play yellows, blues or reds so would suggest picking your tees wisely.
The course has a great range of holes with well sectioned greens, long and short par 4's risk reward par 5's and a good range of par 3's. Fairways are nicely contoured and the greens run true although a little slow at the moment. Nice circular tees and great feature bunkers.
Downside the bunkers are not very well maintained and the water has been missing from a few of the hazards for a couple of years with asthetically doesn't look great.
