What The Club Says
Golf Del Sur is one of the biggest and best golf courses in Tenerife. It has 27 holes and a wealth of natural features to test the keenest golfer. Pepe Gancedo designed the original course in 1987 but in 2005 top Spanish player Manuel Pinero gave it a facelift, converting the Links into par 36 and making it the the full Championship Course it is today. The stunning course, with its wide fairways and challenging water hazards makes the most of the dramatic natural features so artfully provided by Mother Nature, weaving round ravines and volcanic sand traps and dipping towards the sea. The edge of the course skirts along protected San Blas Ravine, a popular walk for hikers and bird watchers and the course itself, features a wide range of trees and plants popular with the local wildlife.

Good course but not at it's best
Having played Golf Del Sur GC a couple of times before and enjoyed the experience thought I would try and better my previous rounds. Usual friendly welcome in the club shop. Booked a twilight tee time but was offered slightly earlier but as was playing as a solo wanted to give a bit of separation so as to avoid any possible waiting. Now they adopt a 8 mins tee off intervals which is not enough in my opinion, I had left myself a 24 minute gap from the group in front but caught them up on the second! Unfortunately that meant me waiting on all holes which didn't bother me too much but was worried I would not get all 18 in before darkness fell, thankfully a few groups in front must have given up meaning it moved quite quickly from the 15th hole so was able to finish my round just as darkness fell. Apparently I was just unlucky on the day according to the group in front of me who had played earlier in the week at similar time and had not been held up. Now the course itself has had some changes since I last played it and is still having some alterations done so a a couple of holes having work done on them. Biggest issue I have with it is the introduction of the buggy paths which keep buggys away from the fairways alot meaning you are not able to readily drive up to your ball, maybe this is why play is so slow, also it is not very walker friendly as you need to stick to buggy paths even if walking on most holes. The course itself remains decent enough to play, one or 2 greens looking worse for wear but played ok, greens in general quite fast. Bunkers now adopt more white sand than the black sand of a few years ago and give the course a more appealing look. Maybe once the cosmetic stuff being done at the moment is finished then they can concentrate on getting the golf course, especially the greens, back to more than acceptable condition. Golf Del Sur GC is certainly worth playing but be prepared for a 4.5-5 hr round especially in high season.Reviewer Rating

The course is undergoing huge amounts of developments and changes, so you now play a composite of the front 9 on the North and back 9 on the Links. The Links is easily the superior course but still enjoyed the round. Worth taking a buggy as some walks between holes and it is undulating. Fabulous views from the links course. Definitely worth playing if you are in the area.Reviewer Rating

Excellent
7th time this year I have played here on 3 separate trips. Staff friendly and professional. The course is excellent, they are the only greens watered in Tenerife so you can go flag hunting in 30-degree heat. The only downside was the food/drink buggy was not working on the days we were there

Management don’t care
Ironically we were told we couldn’t play 9 on the north nine due to maintenance. However we encountered diggers, lorry’s and chain saws on the links 9 and it spoiled the round. Manager still not got back to me for 2 days - email and called in to discuss - perhaps in hiding ! Play elsewhere is my recommendation.Reviewer Rating
