Mallorca's oldest course

Nestled among the rolling hills just outside Palma, Club de Golf Son Vida is one of Mallorca’s most historic and admired courses—and for good reason. Opened in 1964, it’s the island’s oldest golf course, and its maturity shows in the best possible way: wide, tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and a layout that rewards thoughtful play over brute strength.

Course & Layout
Son Vida is known for its parkland-style design, with lush greenery and Mediterranean pines shaping much of the routing. The front nine is relatively forgiving and ideal for warming up, while the back nine tightens significantly, culminating in the famous 18th hole; a downhill par 5 with a dramatic water carry that tempts confident players to go for the green in two.
The course isn’t the longest by modern standards, but it’s wonderfully technical. Sloped fairways, doglegs, and elevated greens mean accuracy and course management matter more than distance.

Scenery & Ambiance
The views are exactly what you’d expect from Mallorca’s highlands: sweeping vistas of Palma Bay, manicured landscapes, and serene residential surroundings. It has a relaxed, upscale atmosphere; never stuffy, but clearly premium.

Facilities
Son Vida has joined with Son Quint and Son Muntaner, to form a new group with a couple of hotels, so they can try to pick up group business, and proposing it as a resort for golfers. The clubhouse at Son Vida is stylish and comfortable, offering a terrace with gorgeous tree-top views, a solid restaurant menu, and well-maintained locker rooms. The practice area is good (though not as large as some newer resort courses), with a putting green and warm-up zone.

Service & Experience
Staff are friendly, professional, and accustomed to an international clientele. Tee times can be busy during peak seasons, but the course is generally well-paced and well-marshalled. We were all given a course guide, but around the half way mark this was hard to follow, and obviously we all had our own GPS devices anyway.

Value
It’s on the higher end of green fees in Mallorca, but the pricing reflects its heritage, setting, and facilities. Golfers looking for prestige and a classic layout will feel it’s worth every euro. Those seeking ultra-modern championship challenges might prefer Son Muntaner or Son Gual, but Son Vida’s charm is unmatched. I’d recommend and be happy to play here again if I return to Mallorca.

So picturesque

Really nice course and we booked early morning and really got round the first 9 in about 1.5 hours. The second 9 took twice that it was so slow. Fairways and greens great and the scenery is fabulous but unless you are in a four ball forget the mornings.

A tricky course with some very tight par 4s set in a fab location in the hills overlooking Palma. Busy with travelling golfers, many from Germany and rounds are not quick.

Great course straight after lockdown

What a great day i had here. It was the furst day after our lockdown and the course looked great. Credit to everyone who works there.

There are some wonderful holes on this course. Several of the holes are quite hilly and demanding. Worth a visit if you get the chance.

Beautiful course

Played here last year and glad we are back. It is not an easy course but it is in fantastic condition at the moment. The fairways and greens likewise. Fast greens but very true.
Gets slow in the second nine but usually they pace the play well. Usually playing in three or four balls, but they do try to match handicaps.

Whilst this is the oldest course on the island, to my mind, it is the best, with more character and enjoyable holes. It is always busy and bearing this in mind, the course was in pretty good condition. The owners (Arabella golf including Son Quint and Son Muntaner) are finally spending some money on the facilities and the new club house is now far superior with great views of the picturesque 18th. Highly recommended - but beware buggy hire. Every year we seem to have a problem and this year was no exception in spite of confirming e-mails. Poor organisation which we thought might have improved along with the new facilities.

The oldest course on the island - and it shows (in a positive sense) as it is more mature with some excellent holes and super views. A tight first nine is followed by a more open second nine, especially after hole 12, although the par 5 18th with water on both left and right is pretty daunting. A great finishing hole though and for a good player reachable in two if your drive gets a kick past the bunkers down to a narrow fairway in between water on both sides. Overall, my favourite course by far and highly recommended although it does get busy - and buggies are often in very short supply!

The course was excellent, The front nine being quite narrow and tree lined requiring careful tee shots to keep you in the game. The back nine open out allowing more use of the driver and braver scoring shots. The midday or sun time prices at the moment are excellent e40 including buggy, however club hire is excessive.
The driving range is 1km away "Is possible in buggy" I was informed...and it is.

This course was nearly unplayable on Dec. 21, 2008. Water standing in all the fairways for the most part, you could not get to your ball without getting completely wet feet even on the higher ground holes! Again, as in the Alcanada golf course, if this is one of the islands most beautiful courses, they have yet to see a truly beautiful course. Not even remotely worth the 70 euros I paid to play in these conditions which they admitted was an ongoing problem with water problems and drainage.
