La Bretesche also features a short 9 hole course, which makes for an ideal warm-up before your main challenge.

Very pretty parkland layout playing around the grounds of the impressive manor house which lends its name to the golf course. The course is carved out of ancient forest, so all fairways are lined with trees. Most are quite narrow, requiring accurate driving and iron shots. The rough can be quite punishing, so finding the short stuff is vital. Reasonable overall length, choice of four tees, and general design make this a very enjoyable golfing experience. Very helpful English-speaking club staff are a plus. Avoid the bar and restaurant for anything but drinks. The food is pretentious and overpriced.

Course very wet and had clearly taken a lot of rain recently. Fairways patchy and grass thin. Greens pretty average with some very poor and needing a lot of work.

What I thought, as told to me, was a beautiful course, was actually a very pretty moated castle in the middle of 18 very average holes.

There was a diagram of each hole on the tee-box, which was completely uneeded. On every hole you could see the green and most of the bunkers because every hole was flat and straight.

So, hit it far and straight and hit it straight again. Repeat 17 times

Uninspiring. And for balance see Nantes Vigneux, now that is a thinking course.
