What the club says: In the North East there are few more challenging courses. Founded in 1890 on the sea front links it moved to its current location in 1906 and still lies within half a mile of the coast. Measuring 6579 yards from the white tees the par 72 sss72 course presents generous fairways, bordered by undulating rough and gorse and large trees.

A key feature is the Briardene which runs through the course and must be carried from the 5th,15th and 16th tees and comes into play on the 12th

Ladies open 10 Aug 2017

Played the course today and it was immaculate. Probably the best course I have played this year. It would have been nice to know about the changes that have been made but I thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to next year.

Make no bones about it. If you can get around here playing to your handicap then enjoy your celebratory pint in the lovely Clubhouse. First hole...easy par 5. Then the 2nd brings you back down to earth. The fun continues. And it is fun. Not a poor hole on the course. The 12th is magnificent but only a taste to such a tough finishing stretch of the last four holes. Greens large and good speed.Views lovely. Sea air is bracing especially when it blows hard. A great track. Play it. You will return.

The very strange weather for this time of year did not take away that this was a very nice course with some great holes. The locals told us we were just in time for two new holes to be opened. Really enjoyed this course, will definitely be coming back in the summer.

Excellent Course!! Distinct features on every hole making the round interesting, challenging and highly enjoyable. The course is in incredible condition, the fairways and greens could would be at home at some of the best golf clubs in the country. I had a look at some of the plans for the coming years at WBGC and i feel it could be one of the best in the north east. The 16th was a personal favorite a daunting long par 4 which fits perfectly into the natural land.

Lovely course, well kept. Pricey if not playing as a guest though. Club members although friendly, seem quite old fashioned and unduly strict about their golf and very cliquey. It's also the most aged membership i've seen at any golf club anywhere. Having said that, wouldn't hesitate playing again for the course quality.

One of the best layouts in the northeast of England, and new greenkeeper seems to be getting the course into the best condition in many many years. Quite long, but fair. Back 9 very strong, with a brutal par 5 (12th) which is justifiably (and unusually) the stroke index 1 hole. Last 5 holes are brilliant. Friendly new pro too. A club on the way up!

Really warm welcome and good course to match.
Played week after 7 weeks of rain but course held up well and greens were excellent concidering the amount of rain and difficulty with cutting them.
Overall a good course and worth a visit.
Watch out for the final 5 holes as your card could be easily wrecked and the 12 is a monster of a par 5 with lots happening to come away with anything over 7.
