What the club says: In the North East there are few more challenging courses. Founded in 1890 on the sea front links it moved to its current location in 1906 and still lies within half a mile of the coast. Measuring 6579 yards from the white tees the par 72 sss72 course presents generous fairways, bordered by undulating rough and gorse and large trees.

A key feature is the Briardene which runs through the course and must be carried from the 5th,15th and 16th tees and comes into play on the 12th

Fantastic course

Lovely course, with some really hard holes and lots of elevation changes. Good test of your game, and some great views as well.

Superb layout

Always look forward to playing here and have done many times. It's a challenging but far test with many memorable holes. Played yesterday, 25th October and it was in fantastic condition with thecexception of some bunkers where the sand was so compacted they should've been classed as GUR. Nevertheless I'd highly recommend a visit.

Course has potential

Played this course yesterday, great layout and views but terrible condition. Turned up early to practice but the facilities were awful, there's a chipping green that clearly isnt looked after as it was like chipping onto a scabby fairway. The practice ground where you need your own balls is a ten minute walk and you spend most of your time waiting to hit shots as it adjoins the first hole. At the bottom of the range is an old abandoned green. Onto the course and the tee boxes didn't look like they had been cut for a couple of weeks, greens were slow and bobbly. There are 4 newish greens that were absolutely terrible, spoke to some members afterwards in the very friendly bar and they said those new greens are always bad and hoped they would be dug up and replaced soon! I wouldn't pay to play here again until they sort the condition out, shame as it could be a really nice course.

Played the course today and it was immaculate. Probably the best course I have played this year. It would have been nice to know about the changes that have been made but I thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to next year.

Make no bones about it. If you can get around here playing to your handicap then enjoy your celebratory pint in the lovely Clubhouse. First hole...easy par 5. Then the 2nd brings you back down to earth. The fun continues. And it is fun. Not a poor hole on the course. The 12th is magnificent but only a taste to such a tough finishing stretch of the last four holes. Greens large and good speed.Views lovely. Sea air is bracing especially when it blows hard. A great track. Play it. You will return.

The very strange weather for this time of year did not take away that this was a very nice course with some great holes. The locals told us we were just in time for two new holes to be opened. Really enjoyed this course, will definitely be coming back in the summer.
