What The Club Says

The Golf Course is a testing 6289 yards and with a par of 71 is a genuine challenge for all handicaps. The ever maturing course was opened in 1992, has its own natural drainage and has rarely closed in its first decade. With Draycote Water lapping the 13th hole, stunning views can be found all year round on the long and truly pleasurable hole.

The signature hole is surely ‘Curlies Corner’. This hole has no room for error. At 184 yards from the medal tee, the green, surrounded by water, has ruined many a good card. The 15th is also a nerve tester, at just 257 yards par 4 and aptly named ‘Temptation’ it has water on both sides of the hole, which needs a good drive and nerve to reach the green from the tee.

Great course

This is the 5th time in the last 20 years that I have brought a group of mates to play at Draycote/Whitefields over a weekend and it continues to improve.

The customer service on the booking was excellent, with great comms that were both friendly and swift.

Whitefields has good facilities - a large putting green, a range and a well-equipped pro shop.

The course itself has a large number of characterful holes. It starts gently enough - the 1st is pretty straight-forward - a 340 yarder, the 2nd is a big left to right dogleg - perfect for my power fade (ahem, slice). Then comes a short par 4 (< 300 yards) and a slightly longer one. The 5th is a long par 3, followed by 2 tough holes - (S.I. 1 & 3) - both 430+ yard par 4 dog-legs - a good drive required to give a chance of the green. A slight respite next - a 450 yard par 5. The 9th is not a long hole but IS tight off the tee, followed by another long par 3. The 11th again favours a good fade off the tee - anything too straight and there's 2 large trees blocking an approach into the green. The 12th is a tricky hole - an inviting tee-shot but then the 2nd needs to be precise - all downhill into a very small green. The next hole is quite imposing, along Draycote Water - a sweeping uphill hole and, again, a difficult green to hit with the 2nd shot (or 3rd !). The 14th is a 450 yard par 5 - definitely 'gettable'. The next hole is one of the most memorable - called 'Temptation' for good reason - a 250 yard par 4 but with a green surrounded by water - 2 x short irons or a big stick ?! The 16th is the 'signature' hole - a par 3 - from an elevated tee to an island green - very picturesque and very dangerous. By comparison, the last 2 holes are a little 'flat' - 2 short par 4s - okay but nothing special.

The course was in great condition, especially the greens and several holes benefited from some recent work on the bunkers.

Off course, a good dinner and breakfast and 2 bars.

We ventured to 'The Merchant's Inn' in Rugby - a great choice with an exceptional range of real/craft ales.

Nice layout in good condition. Consistent greens. You have to think yourself around, not just smash it as hard as possible.

Course is in good condition especially the greens. It has some interesting holes and a couple of very tricky ones. If you are not straight off the tee you can be in trouble. Despite proximity to the A45 it is a quiet course and while not playing it very well I enjoyed it.

Good condition, very short..

Overall not a bad little course, but short if you are a low handicap or longer hitter. Small greens make it a little more challenging, but only a little. Course was in great condition, and has some great views on the back 9. Our round was very slow, over 4 hours for a 2-ball which on such a short course was VERY slow.
