What The Club Says

Established in 1909 the course was officially opened on Saturday 17th April with a match between James Braid, the course designer, and Harry Vardon with Braid the winner 3 and 2. The course is based high up on the very edge of White Cliffs Country between Dover and Deal, Braid designed the course around the natural landscape and made sure it was rich with panoramic views and an abundance of plants and wildlife. A stunning downland course set atop the White Cliffs offering great views of the Channel. An excellent winter golf course.

Very hilly cliff top course. When the wind blows it is a real challenge. Some greens are cut into the slope of the hill making it hard to attack the flag. There is only one flat fairway on the hole course otherwise you are playing up, down or across a hill.

Play here once a year as an annual event. Very hilly clifftop course.
No hole is flat. Fairways have not suffered from lack of watering as on some other courses I have played. Greens have recently been recently and sanded and are not in the best condition but still ran true.

A good test

We were lucky in that it was a very calm day. I'm sure it would have been a different proposition playing in windy conditions. The course looked great and the greens were in good condition. All day breakfast very good value.

With current conditions, very dry, fast fairways, and strong winds it proved difficult to play the course. There are steep slopes on most of the holes making it important to be accurate with teexshots. Greens in very good condition. Recommend a buggy if you play here.
