What The Club Says
Established and opened in 1980, Thorne is an exquisite Parkland Course set in the heart of South Yorkshire's beautiful countryside, and only minutes from the M180.
Thorne boasts 3 elegant water featured holes as well as tight fairways that are watched over by nearly 6000 fully developed trees. The course is family owned by Mr & Mrs. Richard Highfield and the course is managed by their son Edward & the clubhouse by daughter-in-law Hannah. We welcome players of all ages and abilities. Our course has been designed with a variety of holes that are both easy for the beginner yet challenging for the most avid golfer.

Short but fun course
I played Thorne today and I went in with low expectations. Firstly £22 on a weekend is good value. The course is quite short but there are lots of trees so it's important to play with accuracy. And there are some nice holes. The dogleg on the 12th got me! I need to return. And there are some subtle water hazards too. Course was in decent condition. Judging from the reviews, its improving in that sense.Reviewer Rating

Worst course I've ever played
I play a lot of courses and don't leave reviews.I played today as part of a 3 day golf trip.
As soon as we pulled in to the car park and seen the putting green and then went in the foisty clubhouse I feared the worst.
Told the greens have just been 'done' and will be brilliant in a week. In a years time they will never be of a decent standard. Golfers rate courses on greens and they were horrific. Bunkers were a mess but no rakes I'm either to help when your in the last group of our society.
Club is obviously struggling financially
I'm not saying it's the worst golf course I've ever played but it's in the top one!!!

Greens not so good, but playable
Thorne is a great course for getting on easily, but can be a bit suspect around the greens which are often covered in so much debris you cannot possibly clear them for a long putt. Tricky layout, par 3 are all a challenge apart from one. So a decent test of golf for a reasonable fee. A seven out of ten course for me.Reviewer Rating

Needs some care and attention desperately
Having enjoyed this course in the past, we decided to give it another try after the recent rain. Unfortunately it was obvious from the first green and the course was not in the best condition and it got worse from there. Tee boxes were in bad condition, the bunkers had not been raked recently and many missing rakes or had broken ones. The edges of greens pitted and damaged, lots of areas of what would be GUR but not marked. Some greens had been hollow tined but in a very random way which meant it was impossible to make your ball head towards the pin. Unfortunately it does look like the course is struggling and maybe does not have the staff to bring it back to its former glory. Having said all this, it was only ?17 for the round, but I think I would rather pay ?20 and play somewhere in better condition. The course layout has always been interesting with the first 3 par threes all very challenging, but if you stray into a bunker then its a lottery as to what you will find when you get there. Aiming for the green can result in hitting a hole in the green or a rut and disappearing into the rough or trees. Hopefully they can recover the course over the winter.Reviewer Rating

Tricky but enjoyable
The terrain is flat but the course is tricky with frequent dog legs and very few opportunities to use a driver. The fairways and greens are in excellent condition. Bunkers were often unraked sadly.Reviewer Rating
