Worst course I've ever played
I play a lot of courses and don't leave reviews.I played today as part of a 3 day golf trip.
As soon as we pulled in to the car park and seen the putting green and then went in the foisty clubhouse I feared the worst.
Told the greens have just been 'done' and will be brilliant in a week. In a years time they will never be of a decent standard. Golfers rate courses on greens and they were horrific. Bunkers were a mess but no rakes I'm either to help when your in the last group of our society.
Club is obviously struggling financially
I'm not saying it's the worst golf course I've ever played but it's in the top one!!!

Dissapointed
As I expected ,boggy, poor greens ,etc It will be a long time before I return to thorne as there is no real care taken about the course I paid £16 to play greens not as good as some fairways ive played on and its a shame because its a nice flat short easy walking course and with a bit more tlc it could be a joy to play.Still have buggies on churning up the course £££££££££££££££Reviewer Rating

Played on 21st July 19 and quite frankly it was poor. There were weeds in some of the greens, well I say greens more like a par 3 pitch and putt standard. A short course so good fun for the big hitters and the B9 was certainly better than the front.... shame as it just needs some TLC and would be really nice as it has some lovely aspects!! Come head green keeper pull your finger out......!!\\\\\\\\We also ordered a buggy which looked like Chevy Chase had just given it back after a summer vacation, need I say more.... fair to say we wont be recommending, sorry!!

Don't like it!
Thorne is one of those courses you either love or hate - sorry, for me it's one I hate though I'd never not play there if I was asked to by a friend! Not for me, never has been! The last hole is good fun, so is the first and there's a coupla steep dog legs that are a giggle - that's it! Staff have always been pleasant enough and it's cheap and cheerful enough in the bar! Club shop is better stocked than the course quality probably warrants! Still - it's all personal opinion!(Round played: Jul 2017 - Score: 85 Handicap: 19.3)

Needs some care and attention desperately
Having enjoyed this course in the past, we decided to give it another try after the recent rain. Unfortunately it was obvious from the first green and the course was not in the best condition and it got worse from there. Tee boxes were in bad condition, the bunkers had not been raked recently and many missing rakes or had broken ones. The edges of greens pitted and damaged, lots of areas of what would be GUR but not marked. Some greens had been hollow tined but in a very random way which meant it was impossible to make your ball head towards the pin. Unfortunately it does look like the course is struggling and maybe does not have the staff to bring it back to its former glory. Having said all this, it was only ?17 for the round, but I think I would rather pay ?20 and play somewhere in better condition. The course layout has always been interesting with the first 3 par threes all very challenging, but if you stray into a bunker then its a lottery as to what you will find when you get there. Aiming for the green can result in hitting a hole in the green or a rut and disappearing into the rough or trees. Hopefully they can recover the course over the winter.Reviewer Rating

This is a nice easy course to play, easy walk with lots of short par 4s to help with your confidence.

Course could do with some work as some of the greens are brown and not green. Went into the clubhouse after for a quiet pint and there was annoying little kids running around with toy guns. Abit disappointing really.

Enjoyable round. Unusual course, short and tight. Too muddy in places. Hit a pitch short to one green and it plugged 6 yards short rather than rolling on. It should not be that muddy just in front of the green!

For the money it's not the worse course iv played but also played a lot better for the money, serious lack of yardage markers, signs locating next hole and ball cleaners, not somewhere I'd be rushing back.

Cheap venue for golf on level ground. Has some interesting holes and is not usually all that busy. Has a par 3 to start and a tricky par 4 to finish, where the green is surrounded on three sides by water. Water appear in a few other locations around the cvourse, but mainly tree lined holes.

Thorne golf club is a very traditional club and very set in there waysthe general course was in fairly good condition but some of the pin positions were a bit ridiculous
one was even blind approach on a par 3 hole
greens were not the best condition with very bobbly and grass contamination has left bare patches
club house very dated and old fashioned but pleasant

TLC Needed
Cheap and cheerful and always on full tees and greens all year round so it's greens are never in good condition,it's ok if you want a quick round plus in autumn there are leaves everywhere even nearly totally covering one par 3 green.Reviewer Rating

Good day out.
Had a lovely round with the course to myself (Sunday PM). Very short but quite tight, most would be better off leaving their driver in the car. Greens were in reasonable condition, a little slow but true. Overall a good test of your short game and worth the money.Reviewer Rating

Good golf course. Greens in good condition even though torrential rain caught us out. Keep your drives straight or you'll be punished in the tree lined sides. 18th is a very nice finishing hole
