Nice heahland course

On a sunny the fairways were hard and the greens were the fastest I have ever played on but true. Lots of bunkers and I managed most of them.

Great Course in great condition

Well kept course with some challenging holes and links feel. Played early evening on twilight rate whilst on holiday in Torquay- only £18 - great value - well worth a visit.

Excellent round on a late summer afternoon. Pace of play was very good and despite being behind 5x4 balls, my co-player and I did not have to wait too long before playing shots.
Bar was well organised for Track & Trace and the greens were fast but challenging.

Good Quality Course

Played here October,2019

High up, fairly level course with heather ,quite open in places & partially tree lined & i imagine good views (unfortunately it was misty when we played so we didn't get any sort of effect but would like to play it again on a sunny day).

Well conditioned with excellent greens .

Good group of par 3's ( particularly the 2nd ,5th & the 16th) .

I thought the front 9 layout was more interesting whereas the back 9 is more out & back not taking anything away from these holes .
The bunker positioning & the bunkers themselves with the light greyish sand , which i liked visually & you don't see very often , was impressive & overall i enjoyed playing what feels like a high quality course .

The food/drinks pricing in the clubhouse is on the high side & when i booked a tee time & also arrived i was told we would be able to have a meal afterwards as we had a 4 hour journey back but were unlucky that it had been quiet in the clubhouse & only sandwiches were available .

Hot Day!

Always wondered what this course is like because whenever I drive past in a morning, it always seems to be shrouded in mist.
Today was different, the sun was out and it was hot!
Very open course with wide fairways and enough bunkers but no water hazards. Friendly service from the club shop and bar staff and a fantastic "after round" view from the outdoor terrace.

This is the 2nd Mackenzie course I have played, the first being Oakdale (Harrogate). in both cases the layout has left me disappointed - sadly lacking compared with a Colt designed course ! This one starts off with a number of quirky holes until you reach the flat plateau on which most of the holes are located -these are all very "samey" and frankly lacking in architectural imagination. The last few holes bring an old quarry into play which you have to cross. The 17th fairway has a 45 degree slope with bale out area which is a little more level !

In one word - a disappointing layout, unless you enjoy quirkiness !

Superb views from the course and well furnished clubhouse

Played April 2015 on a sunny and windy day. Course was great. I guess it would be classified as a heathland course. Though not a long course, it was still punishing if you were offline enough to find the gorse bushes, and tricky out of the heather. Bunkers were always in play as well, so it was a decent challenge for our group of 12-28 handicaps. Clubhouse was dated but the staff were very friendly, and the club pro was very helpful and sociable. At £40 per head this course was worth it. We will play this course again.

Played on last lovely day of October 2011 with temps at 25c. The course was dry and even though it had been warm for a few days i would expect better condition, it felt a little rough around the edges.
The greens condition, out of several courses i have played in Devon are not as good as Churston, Dainton or Dartmouth for condition but slopes, burrows and challanging were great and true.
Pro shop was well stocked and friendly.
Its a challanging course and dont be put off by a shorter than usual length, if you stray too far off each fairway the heather and gorse will get you. If you play some of the Par 5's as Par 4's then you really do have a challange.
