What the club says: The front nine are away from the coast and although the soil is sandy the terrain is more accurately described as heathland. But it is none the worse for that, especially with the presence of water making itself felt on five of the holes. The back nine head for the sea, and some beautiful scenery, and the course is transformed into pure links that have been likened to a miniature Troon.

Windy conditions ruin the day
Didnt enjoy the day, the greens were not good a little bouncey & fairways still not recoverd from last years drought. Not the fault of the course but the weather / wind was terrible the day we played which didnt help. Once off the fairways balls were very difficult to find.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 107 Handicap: 18)

Nice people, nice course
Challenging part parkland part links course, like to play again without my injured arm! Greens good, fairways a bit rough due to slitting.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 130 Handicap: 23)

Course of 2 halves
Played Portmadog as the last leg of our triple adventure to North Wales. There were 12 of us and the hospitality was good upon arrival with refreshments available (coffee/tea from a machine). This course will test your ability to play woodland and links golf alike. To get to the first tee its a walk down the road (100yds) please be aware of players teeing off on the first. The first 9 are the woodland, with plenty of variety and challenges from water and bunkers. Star of the show is the par 3 island green on the 7th. Front nine is a great challenge. We then move on to the links element and wow!! blind tee shots over dunes into open fairways. The more you progress on the back nine the better the views get. Culminating in a drive-able par 4 followed by a challenging hit and hope par 3. Overall a fantastic course and any golfer would enjoy the challenge of these 18 holes. Unfortunately some of the fairways were still suffering from last years drought conditions which was the only negative i could find.

Dont let that clueless review sway you, this is how a links course should play. Id happily return

Nice club - very poor condition
Played here on Monday 15th July. Very friendly club with nice clubhouse. The greens were a nice pace and the tees were ok. Unfortunately the remainder of the course was burnt to a cinder and we had to play hunt the blade of grass on the fairways. There was no definition between the fairways and the rough and we played lift and place within one club length on all areas in order to have a lie with a least some grass under the ball.
We also unfortunately played behind the slowest singleton it has ever been my misfortune to encounter. We waited on every shot from the 6th hole so the pace of play was appallingly slow. The singleton made absolutely no attempt to call us through despite knowing that he was seriously holding us up - he attempted to apologise whilst we were having a sandwich after playing.
We would perhaps play here again but not until the condition of the course improves.

Wonderful course, exceptional views

Blustery day on the N Wales coast!
Interesting course split by the road and like playing two different courses.First visit but I?d go back, without 40+ mph winds, just to take the course on again under calmer conditions.
The course in general appears to have suffered through the scorching summer and is a bit bare in places but all in all in well maintained condition with great quality greens. I foun a couple of the front 9 challenging but on my return to the seaside and back 9 I found some very hard holes with levels of difficulty I?ve never faced before. If 12 was good, 13 was even better especially with the winds!!! Loved the place and will go back again. Travelled from NW England to play but storms cancelled the Nefyn round.

Friendly club with beautiful views on back 9
Decided to play Porthmadog during a family holiday in Hafan y Mor and I didn’t regret it. Very helpful club pro (thanks Paul) assisted me with an early start request as well as providing good course guidance. The front 9 has been underrated I feel in some reviews and did have a woodland course feel but the course comes into its own on the back 9. Links play all the way with completely different wind conditions compared to the front 9. The course was bone dry everywhere (April) and the greens in decent nick considering the cold March and early wet April. The members and green keepers I met in the course were very friendly with good hole advice provided.Definitely would play again.

Spectacular
After a week of rain we played the course and were astounded how dry it was. Lovely course , friendly staff and members.

Great course
Tale of 2 halves; nothing too much going on round the front 9. Back 9 is glorious traditional links(Round played: Jul 2017 - Score: 85 Handicap: 12.2)

ever improving, a joy to play
really interesting golf course, never played it before? then buy a course planner - you will need it !

GREAT COURSE
THIS COURSE WAS IN GREAT CONDITION , NICE GREENS AND WORTH A VISIT !

Good Course
A good front nine for the higher handicapper. Some of the back 9 holes can be challenging for unless you are a straight hitter. All in All an enjoyable game.(Round played: May 2017 - Score: 102 Handicap: 28)

Cracking course in a lovely setting. Back 9 is spectacular.
